- Silisia lost the match on Saturday by a points decision
- He died on Wednesday, the cause of death is unclear
Lemuel Silisia, an Australian-based boxer and expectant father from the Solomon Islands, has tragically passed away just days after a title fight in NSW. The cause of death is still unclear.
Silisia, who has been living and working in Australia since 2021, took part in the biggest match of his life on Saturday when he fought for the World Boxing Foundation Australasian Super Lightweight Title in front of around 1,000 fans.
Despite defeating his Australian opponent Adam Flood in the third round, Silisia lost the match on points.
After the eight-round match in Tamworth, Silisia reportedly posed for photos with fans and spoke to the media.
In the days that followed, family members let his friends and followers know that the talented boxer was in the hospital fighting for his life.
His death was announced by family members on Wednesday evening, but the cause of death is still unclear.
Silisia’s brother Colson posted a tribute online, explaining that his brother was declared medically dead after failing to respond to brain function tests.
His brave heart kept fighting until it finally stopped beating today [Wednesday] at 5:24 p.m., when he was called to be with the Lord Jesus Christ,” he said.

‘In this time of immense grief and sorrow, the Silisia family kindly asks for your support and prayers. Your love, thoughts and prayers will provide comfort as we navigate the pain of this loss.
“Although our hearts ache, we cherish the memories we shared with him and keep his spirit in our hearts.”
The fighter, who was nicknamed ‘Lucky’ by his family, told media earlier this year why he moved to Australia.
“In the Solomons, even if you’re good at sport, success depends on who you know, not what you know. But Australia is a big country with a lot of opportunities in sport,” he said.
The fighter’s family informed friends that he died Wednesday evening
On Wednesday evening, Silisian boxing club One2 Boxing in Tamworth posted a short message on social media.
“The past few days have been spent with our beloved Lemuel, family and friends,” the club said.
“Your O2B family is grieving and we promise your legacy will live on. Rest in peace Lems.”
