Mystery as couple claims their Tesla windshield was smashed up by fish that fell from the sky even though they live a mile from the nearest body of water

  • The perpetrator is said to be a bird that dropped its food on the car

A New Jersey couple had their Tesla windshield smashed by a fish they believed fell from the sky, but they lived a mile from the nearest body of water.

Cynthia and Jeff Levine of Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey, reported hearing a loud cracking noise outside their home.

Speak with ABC7 Cynthia described how the car started honking. ‘I went outside and Jeff was in the yard somewhere. He heard the crash and everything but ignored it.’

When they walked out to their driveway to check on the car, they saw that the windshield of their Tesla was cracked and covered in “fish scales and blood,” Cynthia said.

Jeff said he initially thought someone had thrown the fish at the car.

“Is someone after us?” he wondered. “We thought…are they vandals?”

Security footage showed a small fish suddenly falling from the sky and crashing into their Tesla.

But the couple soon discovered who the culprit was. They suspected that the unexpected delivery came from a bird with food in its beak.

“We also have an eagle’s nest in our backyard… We think it was the eagle,” Cynthia said.

The Levines live about a mile from the nearest body of water, Raritan Bay.

According to locals, it is common to see birds flying with fish in their beaks.

A similar incident occurred in North Carolina in 2021, when an unlucky fish flew into the windshield of a truck after being thrown into speeding traffic by a bird.

The bass, which had been plucked from the lake by a bird, landed directly on the windshield of truck driver Barry Poff, shattering the window.

Poff said the encounter was unlike anything he had seen during his nearly three-million-mile drive through all 50 states.

“I pulled over and called my dispatcher,” Barr said. “I told him, ‘You’re not going to believe what just happened. A fish just smashed my windshield.'”

Barry was uninjured, but his truck sustained some damage in the accident.

While the Levines work to get their Tesla back through their insurance, Jeff had a message for his feathered neighbors.

“I’ve lowered my deductible, so if any birds are listening, please don’t drop it here because I’m insured now,” he joked.
