A cookie cutter with a very mysterious shape has left thousands of people scratching their heads.
A Reddit user took to the What Is My Cookie Cutter subreddit last week to see if anyone could tell her what shape the baking tool she received was intended to be.
‘My mother sent me this. Please know what shape it is?’ asked the original poster (OP) named Lady_Absinthea.
In the post, she shared an image of the cookie cutter with a truly mind-boggling silhouette: a spherical, imperfectly round mass with a crescent moon sticking out of it.

Some Redditors guessed it could be a rose or a ‘chubby bird’ – they even recreated an image to demonstrate their suggestions
Someone else saw in the crescent-shaped protrusion a half-peeled banana, held by a disembodied hand
Another imagined the half-moon overhang as part of a banana split
Thousands took to the comments to put forward their best guess and also illustrate it visually; they submitted ideas ranging from different types of plants and animals, to cartoon characters, to supernatural beings and much more.
The most positive guess was simply that of a rose, with the user imagining the protruding part as a stem. “This is the only thing I can think of lol,” they admitted.
‘A plump bird?’ another spitball also demonstrated their hypothesis with an illustration superimposed on the original image.
Someone else saw the protrusion of a crescent moon as a half-peeled banana held by a disembodied hand, while a fourth person imagined the same protrusion as the banana in a banana split.
Another user presented a drawing of a coiled cobra that indeed filled the cookie cutter shape quite convincingly.
One of the more brilliantly unhinged replies featured a yellow duck holding a bloody butcher’s knife, with the user adding the tongue-in-cheek comment: ‘Listen to me….’
To this someone said: ‘This is the best answer. Go with murder duck.”
In keeping with the theme of mortality, one Redditor imagined “a little Grim Reaper,” while several users believed the shape was something along the lines of “a cute ghost.”
“It’s an old woman scolding a naughty child,” one user stated.
Numerous users have put forward a host of guesses in the comments, including a snail, an octopus, a grim reaper, a pumpkin in a pumpkin patch, and a “cute ghost.”
Another user deduced that it was the character Moritz from the German children’s book Max and Moritz. In the illustrations in the original book, the character has a high half-ponytail and outward, shoulder-length hair.
Numerous users presented a series of additional guesses, including “a sideways snail,” “a waving octopus,” a “pumpkin in a pumpkin patch,” an elephant, and a “moon and shooting star.”
The OP finally followed up in the comments: “Wow, I didn’t expect so many suggestions! My mom thinks it’s a ghost or a rose and she loves all the suggestions!’
But a definitive answer is yet to come.
As one user put it: ‘Glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t have a real answer… wtf is this.’
