My rightful sister-in-law ate almost all the leftovers from my wedding. I am furious with her, but my husband thinks I am unreasonable

A new bride wonders if she is wrong for being angry at her sister-in-law for eating her wedding leftovers without asking.

The unnamed woman took to Reddit to share that she and her partner had tied the knot and were left with eight containers of food, ten boxes of cupcakes and three containers of cookies.

After their wedding on Saturday, the bride and groom took the food to her mother-in-law’s house until they could pick it up on Monday.

However, when she arrived at her husband’s mother’s house, she discovered that her sister-in-law had eaten their leftovers and even shared some with her coworkers, meaning they were down to three trays and three boxes of cupcakes.

Now the bride has wondered if she’s wrong in a thread titled: ‘Am I the hole?,” because she was angry at her sister-in-law for eating her leftovers.

At the beginning of the post, she explained, “So my wedding was on Saturday and we had out of town guests leaving on Sunday so we had (my) mother-in-law bring the leftovers to her house to store until we could make room and freeze leftover cookies.

“I easily had eight containers of food, ten boxes of cupcakes and three containers of cookies left.”

However, when they arrived at her husband’s mother’s house on Monday, they were shocked.

They were surprised to see that they now only had three trays of food and three boxes of cupcakes.

Although the new bride was “furious,” she decided to remain quiet. However, when she discovered that her sister-in-law had raided their food, she decided to talk to her husband.

She explained: ‘It turned out that my sister-in-law had started looting our things and taking food and cookies home. Please note that I allowed people to bring items from the wedding and expected what we took home to be ours.

“The same day we picked up our stuff, we also got a call saying she wanted more of our cookies and cupcakes to take to work.”

She explained that she would have been “more than willing” to give her sister-in-law some of the food if she had asked, but the new bride was furious that she hadn’t even asked if she could have some of their food.

The bride added: ‘I’m not a selfish person but I was angry when I wanted to get something but it was gone.

“I’ve often commented to my husband about his sister’s behavior during our courtship, because this isn’t the only time she’s been guilty of it, and he just dismisses it, maybe because he knows how his family is doing . Don’t get me wrong, I love my in-laws, but sometimes they really cross their boundaries.’

At the end of the post, she wondered if she was an “a**hole.”

Luckily for the new bride, people on the internet flooded the comments section and ran to her defense.

One person said: ‘Not the hole. I saw her take a container or two of food, but she took five containers of food and seven boxes of cookies in one day, if that’s right? You do not take more than half of the food that someone else has paid for without asking; that’s just rude.

Someone else added: ‘Not the hole but you’re in for a rough ride if he doesn’t back you up on simple things, the big ones will be rough.’

Luckily for the new bride, people on the internet flooded the comments section and ran to her defense

“He’s a weak doormat and his sister is a big jerk. Be prepared for this to be your life,” one user added.

One person said: ‘Not the hole. Send her a bill for the cost of the food and ask her how she wants to pay for it, but you want the money back by the end of November 2023. If she says something, tell her it’s classified as theft and you had plans for that leftover food. If she had asked you, you would have happily given her some, but you hate thieves.”

“I would send her a bill for the food she took,” someone else wrote.

Another person said: ‘Not the hole.

It sounds like you have a lot of leftover food. She had no right to just take the food you paid for. If she had asked, would you have given more? You have to stand your ground now and set boundaries, otherwise this will continue.’

Someone else added: “Definitely send her a bill for dinner.”

“Send her a bill for all the food she brought. It’s stealing,” one user wrote.
