My Mum, Your Dad viewers share their views on the ‘middle aged Love Island’ but standout star Roger steals the show and brings fans to tears as the single father opens up about losing his wife to cancer
Viewers of ITV’s My Mum, Your Dad have shared their thoughts on ‘middle-aged Love Island’ – with standout star Roger stealing the show and leaving fans in tears.
The series, which premiered last night, follows a group of middle-aged single parents as they head to a romantic getaway in search of love again.
Unbeknownst to them, their adventure is led by their adult children, who are looking for their parents to find a partner.
The show’s rise comes as host Davina McCall, 55, insisted you “don’t have to give up intimacy and sex” as you get older.
But one contestant, widower Roger, left viewers emotional as many said he wasn’t ready for love after the death of his wife 18 months ago.

Your Mum, My Dad’s views have taken to Twitter to share their love for the show’s star Roger, who lost his wife to cancer 18 months ago
The first episode featured a date between 58-year-old widow and single mother Caroline, after the women chose which man they wanted to go on a first date with.
During the date, Roger talked about the death of his beloved wife and mother of his three children, Joanne, who passed away at the age of 52.
Caroline was moved to tears after Roger revealed his wife went to sleep on the sofa and never woke up after dying from cancer.
A fan of the show wrote on Twitter: ‘It’s only episode one and I already want nothing but the world for Roger, GIVE THAT MAN A HUG. #MyMamaJePapa.’
Another wrote: ‘Ah Roger… What a true gentleman, big heart and the nation loves you. I think we all want to jump through the television and give him a squeeze.”
Other viewers of the show took to social media to criticize and spread the love for the program after the first episode.
One person wrote on Twitter: ‘A toe curl cringe fest!! I’d rather watch the paint dry.’
Another said: ‘My mother, your father? Who comes up with this nonsense?’
A third wrote: ‘My mum, your dad’, absolute, mind-numbing nonsense, which lasted five minutes.’
A fourth said: ‘ITV is really scrapping things with ‘My Mum Your Dad’. We’ve never seen such a mess before.’
But while some hated the show, others are eagerly awaiting the second episode.
One viewer wrote on Twitter: ‘My mother, your father! I love it already. I wish my children were old enough to apply for a job with me. #singleparent #MyMumYourDad #love #dating.”
Another said: My mum, your dad…is like Love Island for old people.’
A third tweeted: ‘Already obsessed with My mum your dad.’
Dubbed the ‘Middle-Aged Love Island’, parents continue to attend dates and bonding workshops while unknowingly being embarrassed by their children from an outhouse with ‘pillows over their faces’.
The singles will think they are being set up by relationship experts, when in reality Davina has shocked their children by enlisting them to help with the dating.

Davina admitted that there were times during filming when the adult children hid behind pillows out of shame, but insisted that no sex scenes would be shown on TV.
She explained: ‘There are no cameras in the bedrooms, I think it’s important to point out that it’s different that way.
‘For me personally, I prefer to look at the hint of love, the hint that something is coming, shouldn’t I do that, a moment of tenderness – that’s so exciting – but jumping into bed with each other, sh***ing, once you see it, it means nothing.
‘This really means something, when you see people falling, you know this is serious. That’s so beautiful.
“But yes, there are times when the kids have had pillows over their faces. They’ve never seen their parents in a dating situation.”
The show comes as presenter Davina insisted you ‘don’t have to give up intimacy and sex’ as you get older.
She reflected on passion later in life, saying that once children leave the nest, it can be the perfect time to get things going again.
She told The Sun: ‘What I like about the show is that it’s a great reminder to society that you don’t give up on intimacy and sex when you’re forty, fifty or sixty.
‘In fact, it could be the sexiest time of your life, once the kids’ luggage is gone, they’ve all flown the nest and you can actually go for it again!
“With kids it’s like, ‘Shh. Oh my god, they’re going to come in any minute.”
“So when you have time for yourself and they’re not around as much, that’s a great time to try to revive something.”
Davina knows all too well how to find love again when she is older.
In 2017, she announced her divorce from Matthew Robertson, her husband of 17 years, with whom she shares three children with Holly, 21, Tilly, 19, and 16-year-old Chester.
Two years later she went public with her romance with hairdresser Michael Douglas, 48, who she is still happily dating.
