Tommy DeVito may be about to play in the biggest football game of his young career, but at least he’ll be able to call on the comforts of home after the Giants take on the Cowboys this week.
DeVito is set to make his first career NFL start on Sunday at Texas after injuries to both Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor left the Giants in a quarterback crisis.
The undrafted free agent, who is in his rookie season, grew up in Cedar Grove, NJ – just nine miles from the Giants’ practice facility and MetLife Stadium.
He attended Don Bosco Prep High School before spending six years in the collegiate system – most recently at the University of Illinois.
Now he’s ready to play under the bright lights of the NFL, but he’s very happy to still be living at home with his parents, describing it as a “no-brainer.”

“For me it was a no-brainer,” DeVito told ESPN.
‘Everything I need is in the house. The decision was made because this level of football is stressful for a rookie, especially from the quarterback position.
‘A lot is happening, there are a lot of meetings. So everything outside of football is handled by my family.
“I don’t have to worry about laundry, what I’m having for dinner, chicken cutlets and everything that’s waiting for me when I get there.
‘My mother still makes my bed. Everything is arranged for me. Honestly, I don’t even know if I could find a place closer to here than where I live. It takes twelve minutes to get here.”
Unaware that DeVito was living at home – and with his parents – Giants star running back Saquon Barkley replied “really?” when asked for his thoughts on his QB’s living situation.
Barkley also revealed that he had spoken with DeVito and urged him to make the most of this rare opportunity. He will be just the 10th undrafted quarterback since 2000 to start an NFL game.

“I literally told him (Thursday) that it could be a great story. Let’s make this a great story,” Barkley added.
“Undrafted Jersey man. Lives with his parents in Jersey; I didn’t know that part. Becomes starting quarterback for the New Football Giants. The perfect story.’
Veteran offensive linesman Justin Pugh joked that DeVito is a genius at making the most of home life.
He added: ”That’s the best. You know what, smart.
‘Saving his money. Genius! That’s the only thing I would say from a financial perspective.
“Your mother helps with the washing and makes sure you get up on time, without distractions, incredible.”
It has also been revealed that the DeVito family has played host to a number of Giants players this season, including rookie receiver Jalin Hyatt.
‘I have been there. “I like going to his place,” he said.
“It’s got a little hot tub in the back. The funny thing about it is that he lives maybe 15 minutes away. So he’s close.’
