My family HATES my baby’s name because they think it sounds like a car manufacturer, but I love it.

  • Bella Davis, 18, of Utah, has defended her daughter’s unusual name, Polaris.
  • Said relatives have confused the nickname of the six-month-old baby with that of a car manufacturer.

A teenage mother has defended her daughter’s unusual name after relatives mistook it for a car manufacturer and trolls said the girl would be bullied.

Bella Davis, 18, of Salt Lake City, Utah, named her six-month-old daughter Polaris, another name for the North Star, when she was born on July 7, 2022.

Despite ‘loving’ their daughter’s name, Bella and her boyfriend, 20-year-old Reason Robison, who works at a carbon fiber manufacturer, have been forced to stand up for it.

Bella, a stay-at-home mom, said loved ones had compared it to car manufacturing company Polaris Inc, adding: “When we told our friends and family, almost everyone didn’t like it.”

Even his loved ones have had doubts about his choice of name, suggesting that it sounds similar to the car manufacturing company Polaris Inc.

She explained: ‘A lot of people thought of the car manufacturing company, Polaris Inc, which sells all-terrain vehicles.

“My sister absolutely hated it, but once Polaris was born, she started to like it a bit more.

“Lots of people have been enthusiastic about it since then, my mum said she liked it, but I don’t know if she was lying to me.”

Meanwhile, strangers online claim the nickname “sounds like a disease” and another commented “girl, prepare to have a bullied baby.”

She said: ‘I’ve had a lot of people online who don’t like it either.

“A lot of the comments say that she would be bullied at school because of her name and that she is ugly.

“I stopped reading the comments now because they are too hateful.

Despite the backlash, Bella and Reason say they don’t regret naming their daughter Polaris – pronounced ‘Pol-air-is’ – and encourage parents to ‘give it a try’ if they like an unusual name” ( left and right, when the baby was born first)

“I don’t really care, but it’s also not very nice to listen to at the same time.”

The name had personal meaning for the young couple, as they first bonded over a love of astronomy and used to go stargazing together on their dates.

Bella remembered how Reason had pointed to the North Star, or Polaris, just before asking her to be his girlfriend.

“To all the people online, I would say that this is not their child and they shouldn’t give their opinion unless they want to because the things people say hurt and are unnecessary.

“I would definitely tell other parents if you love a name, go for it.”

‘Your opinion is all that matters and at the end of the day it’s your decision.

‘There is no name in the world that everyone will like.

“And for the people who say they’ll bully her, I think kids will be mean either way and if they’re mean to their name then they’re not very good friends anyway.”
