A mother has expressed her anger after her eight-year-old son’s teacher gave her an ’embarrassing’ punishment for missing a day of school.
She was unpacking the child’s bag when she discovered an unconventional word search puzzle.
The third-grade boy had to look up words related to his absence, such as “excuse,” “graduated,” “responsibility” and “success.”
The mother revealed that she was especially upset because it was only the first day he had missed all year and her son was usually a model student.
“I just don’t know what to think about this,” she said in a post on Reddit. ‘My son had to ask me what skipping school meant. Is this aimed at parents or just a fun worksheet?’

Thousands of people on the social media platform have criticized the teacher and the school for the cruel punishment.
‘I find this kind of shameful behavior towards children so strange, it is not the case that eight-year-old children are responsible for going to school themselves (even if they are put on the school bus). It is the parent/guardian’s responsibility to ensure their child is present,” one person said.
Another wrote, “There are so many valid reasons for being late/out of class, and 95 percent of them are honestly too personal to expect people to share.”
“There is no reason to shame students for being late; it just makes them less likely to want to show up, and I speak from a lot of personal experience,” one man wrote.
‘I have been a teacher for 31 years, this is ridiculous. Even if it is a student who has attendance issues, how is this going to solve it? The teacher is a jerk,” another added.
But others blamed the mother for the way she handled the situation.
‘You show unnecessary emotional behavior towards your child. “I’m a little furious with you,” one woman said. ‘Presence is important. Take it from someone who often skipped school.’
“I bet it’s just a coincidence and the class is learning new words. Not everything is about you,” wrote another.
