My creepy neighbour has a security camera pointed at my sister’s bedroom. I asked him to move it and this was his shocking response
A young woman feels abandoned by her neighbor after noticing his security cameras pointed directly at her younger sister’s bedroom.
The protective older sibling texted the once friendly neighbor to ask about the camera, but received a series of uncomfortable messages and legal threats.
Finally, he ended the conversation by dismissing her completely with the phrase “Go away now, girl.”
She explained that her 26-year-old sister could see the camera from her bed, which made her feel like the neighbor could see her sleeping, getting changed and just hanging out in what she preferred to be a private space.
As seen in excerpts of the texts on Reddit, the chat begins with the young woman messaging her older male neighbor in a friendly tone.
A young woman felt very confused by her neighbor after noticing that his security cameras were pointed directly at her younger sister’s bedroom
He let her know that he knows the law best
She questions the need for the camera and asks him to take it down; his response seemed open and easy-going.
“When I come back, I’ll show you that the camera has absolutely no view of the house,” he said.
But not wanting to wait to solve the problem, she immediately asked for screenshots because the man said his cameras were streaming to an app on his phone.
That’s when the conversation turned ugly: the neighbor said he hoped the camera problem isn’t the start of a “bad relationship.”
He also raised an issue with the younger woman “playing music too loudly” in an attempt to lure her away from the camera conversation.
When this didn’t work, he tried to comply with local (Florida) laws that required him to use a camera unless it could look directly into a space where there was an expectation of privacy.
And then told her that she had the potential to ruin their relationship
This included a place where people could undress, the inside of a house or a bathroom.
When the woman pointed out that the camera could see the entire garden and her sister’s bedroom, which violated her privacy, the unnamed man’s messages intensified.
‘Read the law very carefully, I have studied it extensively over the years and consulted with legal advisors. I’m 100 percent lucid.’
He then said that he had not received a text apologizing for the noise and that he would not move his camera an inch.
He also said that he was a great neighbor to her mother for many years and that she “should try to inherit the privilege he gave her instead of spoiling it.”
The young woman reiterated her request to remove the camera and questioned why he was “determined to record someone in the privacy of his own home” before ending the call.
He advised her to hire someone with legal training who could continue the chat on her behalf before telling her to leave.
In the Reddit thread, the young woman elaborated on her sister’s problems with the neighbors, claiming that his creepy behavior didn’t start with the cameras.
‘Since my mother died, he has increased the complaints and harassing text messages to my sister. “He texted her about the weather, asked her if he could walk her large mastiff, invited her to use his hot tub and asked if she could leave packages at his house every day,” she said.
She spoke to the housing authority in charge of the estate and they said other people had complained about his cameras in the past.
Hundreds of people responded to the message and warned the sisters to be careful.
Many labeled the man a creepy narcissist or said it seemed like he had a “God complex.”
“Go away now, girl.” I can only imagine how he speaks to the women in his life…,” one woman said.
“Just a hunch: this pervert has more cameras around that you haven’t noticed yet,” said another.
She laughed at his last message
“Okay, the fact that he invites your sister to use the hot tub?” If there was any doubt before he was definitely watching her in her bedroom. Trying to threaten you with lawyers; F**K that narcissistic pervert,” another added.
Others offered advice on how to ‘solve’ the problem.
“Buy an infrared spotlight and point it at the camera – it will fry it.”
‘Buy a cheap laser and point it at the lens. In many cases it will not only obstruct the view of the camera, but also damage it.’
“Definitely call the police,” another warned.
While some told the young women to just close the blinds and avoid the backyard.
The woman added that a second camera looks into the backyard and living areas, but that she “just left that.”
“It’s just the bedroom that I asked to be removed because she feels like she has to cover her own windows to avoid him now.”
