My boyfriend of three years is moving out after 18 months of living together – critics say we’re going to break up but I think the separation will make our relationship STRONGER
A woman has sparked a fierce relationship debate after revealing that her boyfriend, who has been living with her for over a year, is moving to live with his brother.
Content creator Maiah Police, from Austin, Texas, took to TikTok to defend her new living situation and explain why she and her boyfriend decided to live separately.
“We’re not breaking up,” she says explained in the videowhich has had more than 6.3 million views since its publication on August 21.
“It’s just a new phase for us,” she says cheerfully in the video. “He’s moving in with his brother and he’s always dreamed of living with his little brother, so who am I to stand in the way of that?”

Ignorance is bliss? Maiah added that there was no kind of “contract” stating that she and her partner had to live together until they got married.
Maiah went on to emphasize that the arrangement was not weird, despite people’s criticism.
She told DailyMail.com it was important to clarify that there was a lot of debate about the decision, and he initially wanted her to live with him and his brother, but she declined.
“I ultimately chose to live on my own because I have some intense sleep issues that I have to take care of and right now our apartment is my living, social and work space,” she explained to DailyMail.com
“The fact that we’ve chosen to live together for a year and a half doesn’t mean we’re obligated to share the same roof for the rest of our lives,” she continued.
“Actually, we’ve really enjoyed our time together and think a temporary life apart will make us stronger.”
Another reason, Maiah explains, is that she is 26, while her boyfriend is 24.
“So if he’s going to live with his little brother, now’s the time,” she joked.
Though Maiah confessed that she wasn’t exactly thrilled with the idea when Austin, her boyfriend, initially suggested the idea.
In a follow-up video, Maiah said that Austin hadn’t moved on yet, but laughed at all the cautionary comments people had left and told her he was trying to end the relationship.
One of the reasons Austin wants to move, Maiah explains, is that she’s 26, while he’s only 24.
“We’re not breaking up,” she declared in the video, which has more than 5.7 million views since the video was posted on Aug. 21.
“When he first told me the idea I thought ‘hmm, who cares? used to be.
“When we get together1694088296it’s more of a mindful time,” she said. “When you live with your partner, sometimes it’s easy to be together.”
“It’s a fun chapter that I’m ready for,” she added enthusiastically. “And he only lives a mile from me, so he doesn’t go too far.”
Despite Maiah’s approach to the situation, TikTok users were shocked to hear the story. Many dubbed her “delulu (delusional)” and called it an “immediate red flag.”
More than 11,600 users have commented on the video, with many telling her it’s only a matter of time before she realizes her relationship is over.
“If a man wanted to MOVE after we moved in together, he would never move in again,” one user commented on the post.
“He wants to be completely out of the house before he breaks up so he doesn’t have to deal with the drama of moving,” predicted another.
“This is a sign and you should listen,” another warned. “He tells you without telling you.”
‘My fiancé and I are also moving after 3.5 years together!!’ another joked. “Except we broke up and have no plans to get back together lol.”
Still, a select few said they thought the idea would be healthy for their relationship.
“Wow, these comments are surprising. I thought this sounded so good and healthy for them,” one user wrote.
“I must have been the only one who thought this was a healthy response,” another agreed.
“He’s 24, you don’t have kids, this is the only time in his life where he could properly live with his brother. I think it’s refreshing to see a relationship that isn’t too possessive.”
In a follow-up videoMaiah said Austin hadn’t moved on yet, but laughed at all the cautionary comments people had left and told her he was trying to end the relationship.
“We have a lot of little psychologists and relationship gurus in my comments,” she said in the video posted Sept. 3.
“Thank you so much for your advice and suggestions,” she continued sarcastically. “I’ll take that into account.”
While it was “confrontational” when tens of thousands of people told her she would soon be single, the sassy TikTok creator encouraged those people to look at their own relationships.
“If the idea of not sharing the same living space 24/7 worries you about the longevity of your relationship, I encourage you to think about the strength of your bond with your partner,” Maiah said.
“Relationships can flourish and evolve in different ways, and ours is no exception,” she continued.
“There are now thousands of people who question our relationship and oppose us, which is not what we expected, but we’re just going to continue to do what works best for us, find the humor in it and focus on those who are out there understanding. and love us.’
