My boyfriend exposed his disgusting habit three months after we moved in together – here’s the red flag I ignored
A woman has revealed the ‘disgusting’ and ‘annoying’ habit her ex-boyfriend thought was normal – and the one warning she ignored for months.
Anna moved in with Jacob, her boyfriend of two years, and discussed household chores with Anna saying she washed her bed linen every week.
She soon discovered that Jacob was “lazy, rude and entitled” because he thought she was “crazy” and “creating unnecessary work” by wanting to wash the sheets more than twice a year.
“This was just the tip of the iceberg,” Anna explained in a post on Reddit. ‘He never flushed the toilet either. I walked in and was greeted by its huge dumps, or stepped on a soggy tile.”
Jacob’s solution to ‘musty’ sheets was to spray air freshener on his bed to ‘freshen’ his bedding.
One woman reported that her ex-boyfriend only washed his bed linen every six months
Experts say it’s essential to wash bedding at least once a week to prevent the build-up of dust mites, which feed on dead skin cells, sweat and seminal fluid.
“The text conversation that foreshadowed our breakup after we moved here,” Anna shared alongside a screenshot. ‘He later admitted that he only changed his bed linen twice a year.’
In the text conversation, Jacob initially claimed he washed his sheets every two months – which Anna still found ‘disgusting’.
‘I can’t be the only one who finds this absolutely disgusting, can I? Every two months is already really dirty. Only twice a year is fucking NASTY.”
The couple also argued over Jacob being too cavalier with the detergent, despite the rising cost of living.
“He dumped about seven loads of detergent for one load,” she explained. ‘We were constantly falling short. I went to the pods to try to get him to stop, but then I caught him throwing a handful in.”
The boyfriend texted Anna and expected her to do all the household chores because he didn’t think it was necessary to wash the sheets regularly
Anna said she hadn’t seen the signs for years because Jacob always claimed his roommate was the “messy” one and was panic-cleaned before she went to his house.
“When we talked about moving and DIY habits, he only told me what I wanted to hear. I was fooled.’
Thousands found the ex’s actions ‘abhorrent’.
‘That’s so gross. I don’t think I could share a space with someone like that,” one person wrote.
“When my wife and I were dating, she said she knew she loved me when I had four sets of sheets that I turned every Sunday,” one man said.
“How could you stay with this man after this exchange? My skin is itching reading this,” one woman said.
