My 32G boobs were so droopy – I’m so glad I had reduction surgery

A woman with debilitating breasts of size 32G, which reached to her stomach, is unrecognizable after traveling to Turkey for a breast reduction.

Phoebe Howie, 20, from Aberdeen, Scotland, was just 12 years old when she had to wear twice as many bras to support her breast.

By the time she was 14, she was wearing a 32F cup and hated her rapidly developing breasts.

With a tiny size 6 frame, Phoebe’s 32G breasts caused her severe back and shoulder pain and made her feel extremely self-conscious as they sank to her stomach.

After trying to get on the NHS waiting list for a breast reduction since she was 17, the bar supervisor decided to take matters into her own hands by saving money and flying to Turkey for a breast reduction.

In June last year, Phoebe traveled to Turkey and spent £3,800 on her breast reduction and lift surgery, which took her from a 32G to a 32D.

Phoebe added, “I’ve had big boobs all my teenage years. The first time I realized they were becoming a problem, I was around 12 and wearing a D-cup bra.

“For the extra support, I would wear a sports bra with a regular bra on top. I went to a school where we didn’t have uniforms and I had such a hard time finding clothes that I felt comfortable in.

“Having big breasts ruined everything. All my friends wore nice dresses and tops to parties, but I wore baggy clothes, sweaters and jackets.

“It was horrible and I was so self-conscious. I could never shop in normal stores or order clothes from the same websites as my friends because I knew they would never fit my chest.

They also restricted my movement. I couldn’t participate like everyone else during gym at school and I couldn’t enjoy the gym because I wasn’t aware of what to wear and was in constant pain.

She said her breasts were in a cast when she woke up and she was too scared to look at them for a few days

Phoebe is thrilled with her results and can’t wait to enjoy her new physique in clothes this summer

“I just wanted to live a normal life, borrow my friends’ clothes and wear what I wanted.

“They covered my entire stomach area and it really bothered me because I love my back and my waist but I could never wear backless tops or dresses.”

“If I wore high-waisted pants, my breasts would cover everything. They made me feel like I was much bigger than I was, and I was only a size six all over. It’s not like I’m taller.

‘I was 17 when I started to seriously think about a breast reduction. I spoke to my doctor and got on the waiting list, but COVID delayed everything and I couldn’t wait any longer. So last summer I decided I would fly to Turkey to have the surgery.’

She said it took her a while to process her new body and was in shock at how different her breasts looked

Phoebe said she’s so happy she can buy “cute underwear sets and bikinis” wherever she wants because she knows they’ll fit

She is happy that she no longer has to buy bras in specialty stores and can wear whatever she wants

Can you get a breast reduction on the NHS? The size of a woman’s breasts, their weight, their age, whether they smoke are considered before surgery is offered

Breast reduction is done to reduce the size and weight of a woman’s breasts and involves removing fat, tissue, and skin from the breast.

Genes, hormones, and body shape and size can determine how big a woman’s breasts are—usually they’re in proportion to the rest of the body, but some women can be exceptionally large.

Whether the NHS will offer the surgery may depend on where someone lives and why they want the surgery.

The NHS will not usually perform a breast reduction for cosmetic reasons.

However, it may be considered if a woman experiences effects such as back pain, neck or shoulder pain, rashes or skin infections under the breasts, or psychological problems.

The NHS may also consider the size of a woman’s breasts, their weight, their age, whether they smoke and whether other solutions have been tried.

And the availability of local funding also plays a role – different NHS councils across the country have different criteria, so women living in some areas may be better placed to have the operation than others.

She said, “My friends and family were nervous that I was going, but I was so excited. I didn’t think too much about it and just decided to go for it.

“My breasts were in a cast when I woke up and I was too scared to look at them for a few days.

“I felt so overwhelmed with emotions and it took me a while to process my new body. I was shocked at how different my breasts looked, but I was so happy with the results.

“They were so big, saggy, and droopy that I had both a lift and a reduction. I also had my areolas moving up because of how low my breasts were before, they were more or less pointing down.

“I am so much more confident going down. I’ve gone from always wearing about four layers of clothing to cover up to not wanting to wear anything.

“I would like to walk around my house without wearing anything right now because I love it so much. I now also like to wear small tops and dresses.

“I can buy cute underwear sets and bikinis and I can order clothes wherever I want because I know they fit.

‘I don’t have to go to specialist bra shops and spent £40 on a huge bra that I hate.

“I can also run around with my dog, which I never could before. A huge burden has literally been lifted off my shoulders and body.’
