Musk says he’ll support Ron DeSantis if he runs for president in 2024 as he teases ‘ePhone’

Elon Musk said he would support Ron DeSantis in 2024 if Florida’s governor becomes president as the Chief Twit teased the possible launch of a new “ePhone.”

In response to a Twitter thread on Friday asking if he would support DeSantis, the richest man in the world simply replied, “Yes.”

Musk said that while he was a supporter of the Obama-Biden administration, he admitted that in 2020 he only “reluctantly voted for Biden instead of Trump.”

“My preference for the 2024 presidency is someone sensible and centered,” Musk added. ‘I had hoped [be] the case for the Biden administration, but have been disappointed so far.”

Musk’s endorsement comes a day after top Florida Republicans appeared poised to change a law that would allow DeSantis to remain governor even if the GOP star makes a presidential bid.

While backing DeSantis on Friday, Musk also said he would launch a new smartphone if an awakened crowd convinced Apple and Google to remove Twitter from their app stores.

Elon Musk confirmed he would support Ron DeSantis for president should the popular Florida governor take office in 2024.

Conservative commentator Liz Wheeler tweeted Friday night, “If Apple and Google launch Twitter from their app stores, @elonmusk should make its own smartphone. Half the country would love to ditch the biased, snooping iPhone and Android.

“The man builds rockets to Mars, a silly little smartphone should be easy, right?”

Musk responded, “I certainly hope it doesn’t come to that,” Musk replied, “but yes, if I have to, I’ll make an alternate phone.”

The questions arose after an op-ed in the New York Times by Yoel Roth, the former head of trust and security at Twitter, who surprisingly resigned earlier this month.

In the piece, Roth warned that Musk’s goal of creating an absolute platform for free speech could ultimately be stymied by Apple and Google, which could kick Twitter out of their app stores over security concerns.

“Failure to comply with Apple and Google guidelines would be catastrophic, risking Twitter being removed from their app stores and making it more difficult for billions of potential users to get Twitter’s services,” Roth wrote.

“This gives Apple and Google tremendous power to shape the decisions Twitter makes.”

Speculation about Twitter’s future on the platforms increased after Phil Schiller, an Apple man who runs the app store, recently deleted his account.

Getting booted from the top two mobile app stores would be the latest headache for the Chief Twit as he prepares to relaunch the platform’s clouded verification system.

Twitter will roll out a new approach to account verification this Friday that uses blue, gold, and gray check marks to indicate different types of users.

“Gold check for companies, gray check for governments, blue check for individuals (celebrities or not),” said the company’s owner, Elon Musk.

It will be his last attempt to solve the verification problem after a botched initial revamp led to a major spate of fake verified accounts that wreaked havoc on Wall Street.

Under the new system, all verified accounts are manually authenticated before the check is activated, said Musk, who has reduced the company’s workforce from 7,500 to 2,750.

“Individuals may have a secondary small logo to show they belong to an organization if verified as such by that organization,” Musk said in another tweet, adding that he will provide a longer explanation next week.

The blue check mark was previously reserved for verified accounts of politicians, well-known personalities, journalists and other public figures. There are about 400,000 verified users on Twitter.
