Music industry in mourning as icon passes away suddenly aged 64

The owner of an iconic Sydney music store has died suddenly at the age of 64.

HUM MUSIC founder Peter Thiele took his own life on November 9 The Daily Telegraph reported.

Peter is survived by the HUM co-founder and his ex-wife Kyliejo Thiele, 53, and their two children Felix, 21, and Ava, 17.

Ms Thiele said she wanted Peter to be remembered for his ‘generosity’ and urged anyone suffering from their mental health to ‘ask for help’.

‘He loved music and that’s why he only did it as a job. He lived for it,” she added.

“He was warm and probably a little shy (and) he will really be missed. I know he loved the customers coming in and he was just chatting with them.”

The official Instagram page of the music store in the inner-west suburb of Newtown posted an emotional tribute.

“It is with great sadness that our leader, Peter, recently tragically and suddenly passed away,” the message read.

“As you can imagine, this is an extremely stressful and painful time for his family and his HUM family.

“We will do our utmost to keep HUM running in honor of Peter, so please be patient as we work through this difficult time. Rest in peace Piet Thiele. He will be missed.”

Many customers also paid tribute to Peter, with one writing: ‘So very sad to hear this news. Our thoughts go out to his friends, his family and the many music fans whose lives Peter has touched over the decades.”

‘Very nice man, a friend, loved our conversations and our walks with him. I am very sorry for KJ and children. He will be missed. RIP Pete xo,” another commented.

‘Heartbreaking. Thanks for everything Pete,” said a third, while another wrote: “Very shocking and sad. I’m terribly sorry.’

‘I really enjoyed working at Hum. Pete had some very interesting stories. My love goes out to KJ and kids,” one person said.
