Mushroom chef’s Facebook messages leak: Erin Patterson rips into her husband Simon and shares a scathing verdict about locals in her small town of Korumburra as details emerge about her career for the first time

Fatal mushroom chef Erin Patterson lashed out at her local community while putting together the local newsletter, an insider has revealed.

Erin labeled contributors to the Korumburra newsletter The Burra Flyer “illiterate assholes” during a diatribe against an old friend.

A person claiming to be a former boyfriend of the 46-year-old has spilled the word about Leongatha’s stay-at-home mom on an online true crimes forum.

Erin and her then-husband Simon spent years putting together the 48-page booklet of advertorials and promotions from the regional Victorian community after taking it over from Simon’s parents – and reports indicate she didn’t think highly of some of the contributors.

In another post, Erin seemingly targeted Simon himself and attacked the engineer for not doing enough housework.

‘My husband has no idea that a cleaner is coming. I love it,” Erin allegedly posted while the couple were still together.

“Now I don’t hate the fact that he never helps me with anything, because I don’t do the big jobs either… now I only have to blame him for doing the nightly dishes.”

Pastor Ian Wilkinson was the only one of four guests to survive the poisonous beef wellington served by Erin at her home in eastern Victoria on July 29.

Mr Wilkinson, his wife Heather and her sister Gail and husband Don Patterson were invited to lunch as part of a ‘mediation meeting’ to discuss Erin’s relationship with her estranged husband Simon, who backed out at the last minute.

Erin has denied any wrongdoing and Daily Mail Australia is not suggesting she deliberately poisoned her four family members.

An anonymous person claiming to be a friend of Erin’s came across the forum over the weekend in a thread that received over 200 posts before being shut down by the admins.

It was alleged that Erin had previously worked as an accountant and with the Department of Defense.

“She’s meticulous and very smart,” the person said. “Her whole family is made up of extremely smart people.”

The former girlfriend made several messages to the true crime group before Erin deactivated her account last month.

The so-called “ex-boyfriend” claimed to have met Erin online through a true crime Facebook group.

She shared two photos of Erin after the birth of one of her children.

“I think she was also into crime fiction a lot. Like Agatha Christie,” the person claimed.

Daily Mail Australia does not suggest that Ms Patterson had sinister motives or was inspired by true crime.

Indeed, it is one of the most popular podcast categories in Australia.

Erin was also passionate about Lego, it was claimed.

She was also an obsessive reader. She had tons of books. She is very smart and very well read,’ the members of the closed group were told.

The person claimed she had only dated Erin online, and a planned dinner never happened.

“We had a very close-knit group. It was more intimate than usual because of our shared fascination with crime,” the person wrote.

“We thought we knew her deeply, but we are now discovering that much of her life was very secretive… EP had no friends other than this close circle.

“You have to imagine the most extreme introvert you’ve ever met. That’s EP. Withdrawn. Online friends only.’

The former girlfriend claimed that Erin told them that her estranged husband had once fallen ill with a Clostridium difficile infection – a germ that usually spreads through the hands.

Simon himself spent 21 days in intensive care after succumbing to the mysterious stomach illness at his home in May 2022.

During his hospital stay, Erin kept his concerned friends updated on his condition via social media.

The friend disputed previous reports that Erin was eager to reunite with her deeply religious husband, claiming she initiated the divorce.

“As far as I knew she is an atheist… She was very unhappy in her marriage and felt like a single parent. At the time, I thought it was normal for “my husband isn’t pulling his weight” type of comment,” the friend said.

‘We haven’t heard much about Simon, except that he was never home. I never helped her. She was very closed about it… She left him. She didn’t want to go back with him. ‘

The friend answered numerous questions from members, including her thoughts on Erin’s cooking.

She shared a few cooking photos with us in the group. Pad Thai. etc. Honestly (not mean), but it never looked super appetizing. If I were to guess, I’d say she was a mediocre cook,” the person claimed.

Simon paid tribute to his parents in front of some 450 mourners who gathered at the Korumburra Recreation Center on Thursday.

It was the first time he addressed the shocking incident that claimed the lives of his loved ones.

He remembered his mother Gail’s last text before she went into a coma that she didn’t want to wake up from.

Simon described his parents as both pacifists, while her text message ringtone on his phone was set to the tune of Edwin Starr’s “War.”

“It was no coincidence that my mother’s last text message in our family group chat, while she was in Dandenong Hospital, was, ‘Much love to you all,'” he said.
