Muriel’s Wedding star doesn’t look like this anymore! Matt Day returns with new role 30 years after starring in the Australian comedy classic

Matt Day is recognized by many for his role in the iconic romantic comedy Muriel's Wedding.

The Australian actor played the role of Brice Nobes in the 1994 film – a young man with whom the main character, Muriel, played by Toni Collette, has an ill-fated date.

Matt is now 52 and when he looks back on the film, which premiered 30 years ago when he was just 23, he feels 'very old'.

'I can't believe it's been thirty years. It opened doors for everyone involved in that film. It's quite remarkable,” he says Herald Sun.

Matt's latest role can be seen in the Foxtel series Strife Asher Keddie and Jonathan LaPaglia.

“It's always a lot of fun to do a scene with her because she's always very sharp,” he says of Asher, whose soon-to-be ex-husband he plays on the show.

“She's very smart and she always tries to get the best out of the scene and the best out of the actor she's working with.”

After his time on Muriel's Wedding, Matt scored dozens of roles, including Underbelly, Paper Giants, Wolf Creek, Rake and Love Child.

Muriel's Wedding was an international success, making several of its stars household names.

She recently admitted that she actively turned down films similar to her breakout hit when she moved to Los Angeles because she didn't want to be “comfortable.”

The actress next starred in the 1999 Oscar-nominated films The Sixth Sense, for which she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

The '90s classic follows Muriel, played by Collette, who spends her days dreaming of the perfect wedding day despite never having been on a date.

Directed by PJ Hogan, the film has since been adapted for the stage in Muriel's Wedding: The Musical.
