Murderer killed 18-year-old girl and then had sex with her corpse after tossing a coin to decide whether to strangle his victim
A man who murdered a teenager he met on a bus and then had sex with her corpse said he decided to kill the 18-year-old after tossing a coin.
Wiktoria Kozielska was coming home from a party in the Polish city of Katowice when she was approached by Mateusz Hepa, who had just finished his shift at a car repair shop.
He lured her back to his flat where she fell asleep and then decided to beat her with a rope and strangle her before wrapping the body in plastic and calling the police.
In a chilling monologue reminiscent of the bestseller The Dice Man, in which the main character makes decisions based on the roll of a dice, the 20-year-old killer said: “I flipped a coin, it came up heads up, so I killed her.
“If it had been tails, she’d probably still be alive.”
He was captured hours after her body was found and told police: “I felt the need to kill.”
Appearing in court in the city of Gliwice last week, the car shop repairman said that before the murder in August 2023, he had thought about killing someone and had been walking around the city looking for a victim.

As Kozielska’s devastated parents looked on, he said: ‘I gave her the choice to go home or to me. She decided to come to me.
“We sat there, talking about nothing, and then she fell asleep.
‘I walked around the room trying to wake her up, but I couldn’t.
‘Then I tossed a coin, it came up heads and I killed her.
‘I don’t know why I did it. Certain things happen, but I have no influence on them.
‘Sometimes I flip a coin when I have a difficult choice.
‘I sat on her chest and started choking her. I chose strangulation because there is no blood.
‘She was trying to breathe. She had no strength to fight. She tried to resist, but it was too late.

“After I killed her, I took off her clothes and then had sex with her,” he admitted.
‘Then I got dressed and tried to hide the body. I wasn’t thinking rationally.
“I put Wiktoria’s body in a bag and wrapped it in a blanket. I was going to burn it.
“I thought I would feel better if I committed murder.”
As he was led out of the court, the victim’s distraught friends shouted: “You need to fucking die.”
Local media reports Hepa had thought about killing himself, but eventually changed his mind and called the police.
He has been in custody since last year.
The first hearing in Gliwice was scheduled for January 8.
The trial will resume on February 12, with Hepa facing life in prison.
