Murder suspect is shot after being found hiding in top of closet at scene NINE HOURS after police arrived
This is the moment a murder suspect in California was found and shot after hiding in the top of a closet for nine hours while police investigated.
Mark Jorge Gambill, 23, was discovered in a closet in a Corona home after he was accused of killing a man on Dec. 28.
Riverside County Sheriff’s Office officers responded to a shooting at the home at 2:18 a.m. and found the victim outside with a gunshot wound.
The suspicion that Gambill was hiding in the house arose during the investigation when the Special Enforcement Bureau arrived to search the house.
It is unclear whether authorities previously checked the home before additional officers arrived.
Bodycam footage showed that the armed officers soon found Gambill on the top shelf of a closet in a bright pink bedroom. The interaction ended with police shooting the suspect and taking him into custody.

The body camera video begins with multiple officers inside the home holding weapons and searching the rooms.
They soon enter what looks like a girls room painted pink with stuffed animals as they start whispering to each other and making their way to the brown closet doors which are closed.
An officer says, “What do you want to do first?” while two other officers stand in front of him.
“Go after him first,” someone replies.
The officer with the bodycam on then raises his gun as another carefully pries open one of the sliding doors.

The officers moved their weapons to the closet and shined their flashlights inside looking for Gambill before heading to the other side.
The same officer then slides the other door open slightly as dogs bark in the background.
The officer then shines his light from the bottom of the cabinet to the top, just before locating the suspect and shining his flashlight directly at him.
“Don’t move,” the officer tells Gambill.
“Don’t move,” he repeats as the other officers step behind him with their weapons raised.
“Get out,” says the officer with the camera on.
“Get out of that room,” he says before he and the other officer leave the room, while the other remains standing in front of Gambill with his gun still pointed at him.
The video then shifts to the hallway outside the bedroom before multiple shots are heard and one of the deputies quickly enters the room.
Gambill was shot and received medical attention from deputies until paramedics arrived. He was then taken to a local hospital, where he suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
It is unclear why officers felt the need to shoot the suspect and whether he had a weapon on him when they found him.
The name of the murder victim has not been released, nor have authorities released a motive for that killing.
