A woman tragically died from stab wounds when a man known to her was detained by police for questioning about the incident.
Queensland Police confirmed that emergency services were called at around 11:45am on Friday to an address in suburban Townsville following reports that a 44-year-old woman had sustained stab wounds.
Emergency services arrived at a Wellington Street address in Mundingburra and found a woman with multiple stab wounds. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 25-year-old man reportedly carrying two knives was arrested nearby after a woman was found dead at a Wellington Street address this morning. Police have alleged that the couple knew each other (file image of Wellington Street, Mundingburra)
Acting Inspector Chris Hicks said police officers began CPR before paramedics took over, but were unable to save the woman.
“She was still alive when the police arrived and she was still alive when QAS arrived, but she succumbed to her injuries,” he said.
Detectives from the Townsville Criminal Investigation Branch are investigating what happened.
A 25-year-old man at a Gulliver Street address was arrested a short time later and is believed to be assisting police with their investigations. Apparently, the man was found with two knives.
Acting Inspector Hicks said the man and the deceased woman knew each other.
The forensic police will examine the scene and the neighboring houses will be hit.
A section of the road along Wellington Street and Moorina Steet has been corralled as police conduct patrols.
Police said no charges had been filed.
