Mum’s urgent warning after disgusting find in her bathroom: ‘I didn’t know you were meant to clean this’

A mother of two has warned of the shocking amount of dust and dirt she found behind the bathroom exhaust fan.

Demi carefully removed the ceiling fan in the bathroom—something she’d never done before—and was shocked by what she found behind it.

Images shared with the Facebook group ‘Mums Who Clean’ show how perfectly clean the outside of the fan appears, while the other side was completely covered in dirt.

“I feel a little ridiculous for not knowing these literally disconnect from your ceiling,” Demi wrote.

“I had always just removed the lid and wiped the fan whatever I could get to. So if you have an idea like me, this is your reminder that these come off easily and probably (definitely) need a good clean.”

According to Fans Online AustraliaExhaust fans do not require frequent cleaning, but cleaning is recommended every three to six months.

Before doing this, however, it is essential to turn off the electricity to make sure you don’t electrocute yourself in the process.

The footage amazed other moms who said they never thought about cleaning behind the exhaust fan.

“I was a year old today when I heard this,” one admitted, another said, “Oh, I’ll have to check mine out!” My house is twenty years old, I hope it’s connected like yours.’

“We cleaned ours over the weekend. Thought the fan was broken. Turns out it just needed a thorough cleaning,” a third added.

However, others pointed out that certain fan styles cannot be removed.

‘Not all are equipped with a plug. Some are hardwired,” warned another.

One said, “But unplug at the electrical box.”
