Mumbai Police have filed a chargesheet against Pakistani-origin Canadian businessman Tahawwur Rana in a special court here for his involvement in the November 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
Rana, who is currently in custody in the United States, faces multiple charges for his role in the Mumbai attacks. He is known to have links to Pakistani-American terrorist David Coleman Headley, one of the main conspirators of the 26/11 attacks.
The over 400-page charge sheet, the fourth in the case so far, was filed by the Crime Branch of Mumbai Police with the court registry on Monday.
The document is likely to appear before the special court on Tuesday after completion of the verification process, a government lawyer said.
According to a senior police official, they have added section 39A of the Unlawful Activity (Prevention) Act (UAPA) (offence in aid of terrorist organization) against Rana in the case.
“We have received fresh evidence against Rana in the form of statements and documents,” the official said, adding that this was the fourth chargesheet in the case.
In a major victory for the country’s authorities, a US court approved the extradition of 62-year-old Rana to India in May this year.
