Mum of-two describes how she met her ‘soulmate’ and left her husband of 14 years

An Australian mother of two has spoken out about meeting her ‘soulmate’ while on a business trip with her husband and the decision that caused her to walk out of her marriage only to be rejected.

Amanda Trenfield, who lives in Sydney, was looking to reconnect with her husband after 14 years together, which led to her joining his three-day working conference in Margaret River, Western Australia.

But at dinner on the very first night, Amanda closed her eyes with “Jason” and immediately felt a spark of chemistry, far stronger than anything she’d felt before.

A month later, she left her husband — not speaking to Jason since the event — in search of her “soulmate,” only to find that he didn’t want a relationship with her.

In her memoir, aptly titled When A Soulmate Says No, Amanda describes meeting her match, the connection she felt with him, and what happened after she was left high and dry without any man.

After a “pretty smooth” dinner conversation with Jason that first night, Amanda returned to the couple’s hotel, only to find her mysterious soul mate offering her – and her husband – a drink.

“It happened to be my favorite rose. And over the course of that night, we just kept talking… there was a deep connection that I just hadn’t felt before,” Amanda told Mia Freedman on the No filter podcasting.

The next morning, Amanda called Jason’s room to ask if he would like to talk about their feelings, which he obliged. They took a walk in the woods while her husband attended the conference.

“I opened the conversation with ‘I felt strange and very connected to you last night’ and he said he felt the same,” she said.

They shared “a few kisses” over the course of that morning before breaking up, unsure if – and when – they would see each other again.

Amanda describes that morning as someone who changed her life, but not in the way she expected.

A few weeks later, she told her husband that their marriage was over before reaching out to Jason to see if he wanted to reconnect.

After initially agreeing to see her, Jason emailed the next morning to say that he thought it was best that they didn’t see each other or keep in touch.

“He was there in those moments and felt the connection just like me. He felt the kiss just like me. But he decided to say no and move on with his life without looking back,” she said.

Amanda’s decisions sparked a viral discussion on Twitter among commentators shocked by the way she “blew up” her life, with one writing: “Never in my life have I come across anyone who romanticized a one night stand that *didn’t even happen* ‘.

Amanda’s decisions sparked a viral discussion on Twitter among commenters shocked by the way she “blew up” her life, with one writing: “Never in my life have I come across anyone who romanticized a one night stand that *didn’t even happen* ‘

One commented: ‘She was convinced they were related, but I don’t see any evidence that they were. She just projected onto a random guy because she was unhappy. Which we’ve all been there, but we don’t uproot our lives for it.’

A third added: ‘Yeah, the “I dumped my husband, kids 14 years old to live my life with you after I met you once because you’re my soul mate” may have come across a little strong, no wonder he said um, no.’

One commentator argued that Amanda’s kids may need therapy after reading her book as they get older, writing, “I want to read the ‘two young kids’ POV when they grow up.”

Another commented, “Therapist: So why are you here today. Kid: *SLAM this book on the table*’

However, others defended Amanda’s decision to leave her marriage.

‘I don’t find this really embarrassing. She clearly hated her life and the emotional charge of a crush was all she needed to end it,” one wrote.

Another said: ‘This seems normal and fine, maybe I’m missing something? I get that being in the spotlight and being rejected is embarrassing, but is that worse than being stuck in an unhappy marriage?’
