An Australian mother filmed her outrage after a popular supermarket doubled the price of a loaf of bread.
Chantel Lobban, a mother of two, was shocked to see the price hike while in a grocery store in Adelaide earlier this month.
A video shared with her 76,000 TikTok followers shows breads from well-known Tip Top labels on shelves selling for $5.60 and several Wonder White varieties even higher at $6.20.
“Bread went from $3.60 to $6.20,” a robotic voice says in the video.
‘It’s 8 in the morning and I’m very confused.’
The video shows Wonder White loaves priced at $6.20 after previously being $3.60.
The video also shows packages of bagels priced at $2.50.
Ms Lobban explained that the clip was filmed in a Drakes supermarket.
The business describes itself as Australia’s largest independent supermarket despite only having stores in South Australia and Queensland.
The video has gone viral with 715,000 views and hundreds of comments from stunned viewers.
‘It’s going to be an expensive year,’ commented one woman.
Another added: “Looks like I’ll never move.”
A third wrote: ‘No more toast kids! It’s cheaper to give them mud pie for breakfast!
Others were not surprised.
‘Welcome to inflation. Get ready for the pain to increase,’ warned one.

Savvy shoppers urged the mother to shop elsewhere and buy generic breads for a fraction of the price.
‘Hmmmm, you only pay $2.50 a loaf. I don’t know where you’re shopping,” wrote one.
Some suggested that it would be better if Lobban made his own bread.
Even farmers weighed in on the online debate.
‘Don’t blame us, farmers, for the price increase. Supermarkets are making massive profits,” wrote one.
Australia’s largest supermarkets, Woolworths and Coles, sell Wonder White and Tip Top bread varieties for $3.90 each.
Drakes has since claimed that the prices shown in the video are not correct.
‘This is not a price increase or inflation. There should be a special ticket on the shelf, showing a lower price,” a spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia.
It comes amid warnings of more price pain at the till in 2023 after inflation rose to 7.8 percent on Wednesday, its highest level in 33 years, as the cost-of-living crisis worsens. Australia.
