Police are searching for a man after a mother pushing her pram alleges she was sexually assaulted in the middle of a busy Melbourne park.

The woman was pushing her stroller in a park on Mitcham Road in Melbourne’s east shortly after 4:30pm on January 6 when a man approached her.

Detectives were told the man asked if the mother could take a picture of him before asking for a selfie.

As the couple posed for the selfie, police were told the man started kissing the woman.

“The woman was followed by the man before he sexually assaulted her again, kissing and embracing her,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

He was able to take a photo of the man and send it to the police.

The man is believed to have left the park heading north, and police have launched an investigation and released a picture of a man that was taken by the victim.

The man is described as being in his early 20s and measuring approximately 168 cm (5 ft 5 in).

He appears in a striped T-shirt and sweatpants.

Victoria Police told Daily Mail Australia there were no new updates and again asked for the public’s help.
