Why you need a “deep clean” of your washing machine every month and the cheap and simple method you can use to keep your clothes streak-free

  • A mother revealed how to clean a washing machine with dishwasher tablets
  • She said you throw two in and then machine wash on a hot vacuum cycle

One mom has revealed that you need to deep clean your washing machine every month to keep it running efficiently and streak-free on your clothes.

Brisbane-based stylist Liz Amaya said that even if you don’t think about it, you should clean your washing machine every month or every 100 washes.

This is because the dirt that washes off your clothes, towels, and sheets has to go somewhere and can build up inside your washing machine over time.

‘Do you wash your washing machine?’ Liz posted on instagram.

‘I do this once a month and it works for me.’

Liz explained that she simply adds two dishwashing tablets to an empty cycle and then washes the empty washer “on a hot cycle.”

“No more marks on your clean clothes,” Liz said.

The first thing Carolina said you should do is add a tablespoon of baking soda to the drum of the washing machine.

Baking soda acts as a natural polish and deodorant.

When added to a washing machine, it works to gently scrub the interior and combat those stale, musty odors left behind through old soap and fabric softener deposits.

How to deep clean your washing machine

* STEP ONE: Add a tablespoon of baking soda to the drum of the washing machine.

* SECOND STEP: Pull back the rubber door seal and gently spray it with white vinegar.

* STEP THREE: Wipe the white vinegar on the door with a microfiber cloth.

* STEP FOUR: Add a cup of white vinegar to the compartment where you normally put your powdered detergent.

* STEP FIVE: Set the machine on a hot cycle.

* STEP SIX: Leave the door open to air dry once you’re done.

After this, Carolina said that you need to remove the rubber seal from the door and gently spray it with white vinegar.

White vinegar is one of nature’s best cleaning products: it effortlessly removes residue, buildup, hard water spots, and even grease.

“Wipe up the white vinegar with a microfiber cloth,” Carolina added.

Next, add a cup of white vinegar in the compartment where you usually put the powdered detergent.

“Finally, set the machine on a hot cycle,” Carolina said.

If you want to add a finishing touch, you can leave the washer door open to air dry once cleaned.
