A mother was mortified after finding out her friend was breastfeeding her newborn without her consent.

Afiqah Hasanah, from Malaysia, had her hands full with a family event, so she turned to her friend for help and was assured that her son Haider would be taken care of.

However, she was not impressed with the way she took care of him.

“I was busy carrying things, and when I arrived, she asked me for Haider, so I gave it to him [to her] because she was someone close to me,” the mother said in a video.

“While I was carrying those things, I suddenly saw she was doing something in the back of an open hallway.”

“Apparently she was breastfeeding Haider.”

“What mother can accept that her baby is fed directly by someone else while the mother is getting breast milk herself?” she said.

In the emotional video, the mom appeared to be on the verge of crying and said, “I didn’t expect her to be able to do something like that.”

“I was so stressed I almost cried.. this has destroyed my trust in people. How long will this haunt me?’

But even after confronting her “good friend,” Afiqah’s mother caught the woman committing the act a second time.

“Now I’m having a hard time shaking it off,” she said.

The video has since been viewed over 2.9 million times, has received over 261,000 likes and many have been sympathetic to the mother.

“How can anyone even do that without thinking!? It’s so frustrating to hear this,” one person commented.

“New fear unlocked,” one mom said, another added, “Gotta be careful around people like that.” Get ready to keep the kid away when she’s around.”

Something similar happened to another woman, but her own sister breastfed her baby.

The dangers of sharing milk informally:

The AAP does not encourage the use of informally shared breast milk, citing the risks of spreading disease.

It can also expose a baby to medicines, alcohol, drugs or other contaminants. According to the AAP, women who don’t produce enough breast milk can supplement with formula or use donor milk that comes from a milk bank.

“Informal sharing of milk is becoming increasingly popular and widespread,” said Nikita Sood, a researcher at Cohen Children’s Medical Center/Northwell Health in New York.

“It is therefore critical that physicians become aware of this practice and the associated risks so that they can educate patients and address this growing concern.”
