LONDON, Kentucky — Several people were shot along Interstate 75 in a rural area south of Lexington on Saturday, authorities said.
The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post that there was an “active shooter situation” and that “numerous individuals” had been shot near the highway.
It added that the motorway was closed nine miles north of London.
“I am receiving initial reports from the Kentucky State Police and our Office of Homeland Security — together we are actively monitoring the situation and providing support in any way we can,” Gov. Andy Beshear said in a message on the social media platform X. “Please keep everyone involved in this in your prayers.”
“We will provide more details as they become available,” Beshear said.
