It appears the SUV backed over a curb and crashed into the Burger King restaurant in Lawrenceville, a northeastern suburb of Atlanta.

Images show that the truck smashed through the front wall and window of the restaurant, completely obliterating the facade.

The impact threw debris several meters around, while metal pillars were knocked aside by the car.

The SUV was also left in a crumpled mess, with its license plate and lights missing amid the carnage.

A second image shows dozens of firefighters working to secure the accident scene after cordoning off the area to the general public. The Burger King branch is closed.
