MTV Video Music Awards 2024: Final round of performers announced weeks ahead of broadcast

The MTV Video Music Awards air on September 11, and the final artists have already been announced.

Anitta, Karol G, LL Cool J and Shawn Mendes have been added as performers to the show.

The show will air live from UBS Arena in New York on Wednesday, September 11 at 8:00 PM ET/PT.

Anitta, who has graced the VMA stage for the past two years, returns with a medley of songs.

The artist will perform Savage Funk and Alegria and also debut her song Paradise with guest appearances from DJ Khaled, Fat Joe and Taigo PZK.

Karol G, who previously performed at the VMAs, will soon take the stage.

LL Cool J will soon take the stage, more than 25 years after his last VMA performance.

Shawn Mendes will also perform. The singer will make his first appearance ahead of the release of his album Shawn in October.

Other artists previously announced include Sabrina Carpenter, Katy Perry, Chappell Roan, Camila Cabello, GloRilla, Rauw Alejandro, Benson Boone, Halsey, LISA and Lenny Kravitz.

Megan Thee Stallion will host the show.

Katy receives the Video Vanguard Award.

“Katy is a musical giant and a true pop culture icon,” Bruce Gillmer, Chief Content Officer of Music at Paramount+ and President of Music, Music Talent, Programming and Events at Paramount, said in a statement, according to AP.

“With her groundbreaking creative vision, she has become a global phenomenon, conquering the world’s biggest stages,” Gillmer added.

Taylor Swift topped the nominations for the 2024 MTV VMAs with a whopping 10 nominations.

The 34-year-old hitmaker has the chance to make history as she could become the first artist ever to win the Video of the Year award for a third time.

As if that wasn’t enough, this is already the fifth time she has been given this honor, as she already holds the record for the most wins ever in this category.

This year she is nominated for her collaboration with Post Malone, entitled Fortnight.

The 29-year-old rapper and singer, born Austin Richard Post, is only one behind Taylor, as he has earned nine total, most of which came from their collaboration.

The only nomination he received without Taylor’s help was for Best Collaboration for his work on I Had Some Help with Morgan Wallen.

Not far behind the leaders were Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter and Eminem with six hits each.

SZA and Megan Thee Stallion are also up for multiple Moonpersons, as they’re nominated in five categories.

Olivia Rodrigo, Teddy Swims and Blackpink member Lisa tied with four nods each.

Finally, Benson Boone, Anitta, Dua Lipa, Tyla, Bleachers and GloRilla all have four nominations.
