The MTV Europe Music Awards will be held in Paris this year for the first time in 28 years.
The 30th annual music event returns to screens on Sunday, November 5 with dazzling performances from the industry’s biggest artists, broadcast live on MTV in more than 150 countries.
The last time Paris hosted the awards, French President Emmanuel Macron was just 17 years old, with designer Jean-Paul Gaultier hosting.
A statement from Bruce Gillmer, president of music, music talent, programming & events at Paramount and chief content officer, music for Paramount+ on Thursday read: “The MTV EMAs is one of the biggest music nights in the world, and this year we will continue its legacy of delivering iconic performances and recognizing music’s brightest stars.”
He continued, “Paris is a culture-rich city celebrated around the world for its incredible music, art and fashion.

Hurrah! MTV EMA’s official Twitter account also shared the news, writing alongside an image of the Eiffel Tower at night: “Your 2023 #MTVEMA host city is…Paris!”
“And on this year’s show, we’ll unite tremendous local and global talent to reach fans everywhere for a supercharged music experience that only MTV can deliver.”
Meanwhile, the official MTV EMA Twitter account also shared the news, writing alongside an image of the Eiffel Tower at night: “Your 2023 #MTVEMA host city is…Paris!”
The venue and other details of the event will be revealed at a later date before the French capital hosts proceedings.
Last year’s ceremony took place at the PSD Bank Dome in Düsseldorf, Germany, with pop star Rita Ora and her film director husband, Taika Waititi, taking the role of host.
Taylor Swift led the winners as she took home four awards from an incredible six nominations.
The singer, 32, won Best Video and Best Longform Video for her 10-minute version of All Too Well (Taylor’s Version), beating global stars such as Foo Fighters and Stormzy.
While Bebe Rexha, David Guetta and Harry Styles also won big at the star-studded ceremony.
Host Rita Ora took the stage to perform at the event, as did Bebe Rexha, Gorillaz and David Guetta.

The performances didn’t stop there, as Stormzy, GAYLE, OneRepublic, Kalush Orchestra, SPINALL, Äyanna and Nasty C also appeared.
Meanwhile, the annual music ceremony in 2021 went to Budapest.
Since the first show in Berlin in 1994, the MTV EMAs have visited 23 European cities, with London being the only guest to host three times.
With the announcement of Paris, the city joins Berlin, Milan, Frankfurt and Rotterdam, who have already played host twice.
