MSNBC star Rachel Maddow mocked for hysterical monologue after Trump win
Rachel Maddow is being mocked for her anti-Donald Trump monologue in which she warned the US was heading towards an autocratic government after his resounding election victory.
The MSNBC star claimed that the election turnout for the Republican president was proof that Americans had “abandoned democracy” and opted for a “strongman, authoritarian system.”
She compared the outcome to those in countries such as North Korea, Russia and China, as she urged Democrats not to become “despondent.”
“Now we can work on becoming goddamn pirates. We can work to be a thorn in the side of anyone who tries to turn this country into some kind of tyranny.
However, she was immediately mocked online, with many viewers calling her ‘hyperbole’.
Rachel Maddow has been mocked for ‘boring’ anti-Donald Trump monologue in which she warned the US was moving towards an autocratic government
“Super boring, Trump was popular and elected electorally by a wide margin, it’s a democratic margin,” someone wrote.
“Ridiculous, maybe the ten people watching her show will finally change the channel,” another added.
“Yuck she’s so dishonest with her hyperbole,” a third wrote.
Another person described the MSNBC star as “off her rocker,” while one viewer simply wrote, “Sit down Rachel.”
In the five-minute rant, Maddow portrayed the outcome as a divide between liberals who support democracy and Republicans who want to “destroy the American system of government.”
She encouraged those disappointed with the outcome to get “excited” and “sloppy” rather than remain upset in the coming weeks.
“The more ground the authoritarian leader takes, the harder it is to ever regain that ground,” Maddow said.
‘The first order of business is to prevent them from taking uncontested lands from the start.
The MSNB host delivered a five-minute spiel in which she claimed the election results had the potential to turn the US into a “tin pot tyranny.”
Many online commentators ridiculed Maddow for her latest post-election rant
“They are going to push to see how far the country will let them go, without resistance and without protest.”
She calmed down liberal viewers by telling them they now had a renewed sense of purpose in the wake of Kamala Harris.
“Apparently this is what we are on this earth to do as American citizens of this generation,” Maddow added. ‘Because history didn’t just end, time didn’t just stop.
“We just got marching orders from the universe and the Electoral College. Starting today, American citizens who want to preserve democracy know what we will be working on in the coming days, weeks, and even years of our lives.”
The scenes were reminiscent of, though perhaps not as emotional as, the speech she gave in 2016, immediately after Trump’s first victory.
The president-elect stormed to victory in both the popular and electoral college votes.
In her concession speech, Vice President Kamala Harris admitted that “this is not what we wanted” as she took the stage at Howard University, nearly 12 hours after the race was officially called for the former president.
However, Harris also pledged to help with the peaceful transfer of power, even as she said she would continue the fight after Trump’s dominant victory.
