MSNBC star Joy Reid shares another outrageous view on Kamala Harris’ VP pick contest
Joy Reid has sparked controversy with her new, fierce TikTok response, claiming that Arizona Senator Mark Kelly would have been a better choice for Kamala Harris as vice president because he is as white as “a mayonnaise sandwich on a Wonder Bread sandwich.”
The 55-year-old MSNBC host admitted that Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz “wasn’t the choice I expected” and “thought (Harris) was going to be an astronaut.”
Reid was branded a “racist” by online critics for her comments, with one asking: “Can you imagine what would happen if this was the other way around?”
It’s just the latest in a series of astonishing clips Reid has posted on her TikTok account in recent weeks, including one in which she claimed that black Americans would have to be “really crazy” and “weird” not to vote for Harris in November.
MSNBC host Joy Reid, 55, has been widely criticized after she voiced her opinion on Kamala Harris’ vice presidential campaign, calling one of the candidates “white as a mayonnaise sandwich on a Wonder Roll.”
Reid said she was surprised by Harris’ choice and admitted she thought Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly (pictured), a former NASA astronaut and Navy fighter pilot, would be favored.
In the segment filmed from her couch, Reid began to share her thoughts on the vice presidential race, saying she would “stay realistic.”
“This is not the choice I expected her to make,” she said.
Reid noted that there had been many reports that the vice presidential nomination would ultimately be a three-way race, with Walz and Kelly also running against Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro.
“I thought she was going to be an astronaut, and she was going to be realistic,” Reid continued. “(Kelly) would have been the safest, most conventional choice for me… white, super white.
“Like a mayonnaise sandwich on white wonder bread.”
Reid added that the Arizona senator, who comes from a border state, “could have made a strong case for her,” especially since the border is seen as one of Harris’ biggest weaknesses compared to Donald Trump.
Viewers reacted angrily to Reid’s comments, with many taking offense at her emphasis on the vice presidential candidate’s skin color.
“Joy is the ultimate race hater,” said one critic.
Another attacked her employer, saying, “(Reid) is so disgusting! How can MSNBC justify having such a racist on their network?”

Critics responded fiercely to Reid’s comments on social media, asking, “Can you imagine what would happen if this was the other way around?”
This isn’t the first time Reid has drawn criticism from conservative critics for her inflammatory TikTok campaign.
Last month, the MSNBC host made a series of statements about the attempted assassination of Donald Trump, including suggesting that he wasn’t shot at all.
As pressure mounts on the Secret Service to explain the disastrous security lapse that allowed a gunman to shoot Trump, she listed a number of things she found “odd” about the episode.
She seemed to suggest it was a staged event, allowing Trump to “pose” for the iconic photo of him raising his fist in the air.
“We don’t know why Donald Trump was allowed to stand up for nine seconds during a shooting,” Reid said.
“Even though they said at that point that the shooter had been shot, how could they have known if there were more shooters or not? There could have been five shooters for all they knew.
‘Yet in the middle of that crisis they had him stand up, pose for a photo and wave his fists in the air so he could take the iconic photo.’

Conservative commentator Charlie Kirk led the criticism of Reid’s comments last month, when he called on MSNBC to “take Reid off the air” over her “outrageous, insane, libelous” theories.
Reid also stated that “we still don’t know for sure whether Donald Trump was hit by a bullet,” citing earlier reports that he may have been hit by a shard of glass from a teleprompter.
Conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was the first to criticize Reid’s comments, calling on MSNBC to “take Reid off the air” for her “outrageous, insane, libelous” theories.
“Donald Trump should immediately charge her,” he added.
A few days later, Reid raised eyebrows again in a broadcast from the Republican National Convention, where she compared Trump’s assassination attempt to President Biden’s positive test for Covid.
She compared Biden’s recovery from the virus in “a couple of days” to Trump standing up and pumping his fist in the air seconds after being shot. She said they “convey the exact same thing.”
Reid’s comments about the shooting sparked outrage in conservative circles, with CPAC host Mercedes Schlapp even calling her “out of control.”
“Her comments are irresponsible and dangerous,” she said on X. “She is the ultimate conspiracy theorist.”
“Joy Reid should be fired,” another critic concluded. “MSNBC, you can never be taken seriously with this woman on the air.”
