MP Moitra takes jibe at LS Ethics Committe, posts cartoon on Social Media

Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra, who is facing ‘Cash for Query’ charges, has once again taken to social media to express her views on the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee. The committee investigating the allegations has submitted its report to the speaker.

Sources say the report has suggested that “serious crimes on the part of Mahua Moitra call for severe punishment.

On Friday, Moitra posted a cartoon on her ‘X’ account, with the line ‘Uphold ethics unless you are on the other side’. This is seen as a direct attack on the ethics committee that adopted the report on her alleged crimes.

In the cartoon, Moitra sat next to an empty chair with carvings of a lotus, the BJP’s party symbol. While Moitra had a name tag ‘Opposition’ in front of him, the vacant seat had a name tag ‘statement’.

The Lok Sabha Ethics Committee on Friday submitted its draft report recommending Moitra’s expulsion in connection with the ‘Cash for Query’ case to Chairman Om Birla. This comes a day after the ethics panel probing the case adopted its 500-page report recommending Moitra’s expulsion from the 17th Lok Sabha in view of her “highly reprehensible, unethical, heinous and criminal conduct”. The report was adopted by a majority of 6:4.

The Trinamool MP had left the committee meeting while she was being questioned after recording her statement. She claimed that members of the committee asked her ‘personal’ questions.

However, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey refuted this claim and said it was actually the Opposition MPs who were guilty of asking the wrong questions.

“Mahua Moitra’s friends do her ‘cheerharan’. This should be asked of Danish Ali and Giridhari Yadav. When the report (of the ethics committee) is made public, everything will be made clear,” the BJP MP said.

Ethics Committee member and BSP MP Danish Ali refuted the accusation, saying all the truth would come to light once the minutes of the meeting are made public.

“The verbatim recording of the first meeting of the Ethics Commission is not included in the Commission’s report… We will never allow injustice to women. It is the culture of the BJP to reward men who commit rape… It doesn’t matter if indecent comments are made against women,” said Danish Ali,

The ‘Cash for Query’ row erupted last month when BJP MP Nishikant Dubey approached Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla against Moitra, accusing her of raising questions in Lok Sabha to attack the Adani Group at the behest of businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for gifts.
