The newest Mozilla Firefox is much faster and smoother than ever before

Mozilla has launched its next version of Firefox with a handful of new features designed to improve workflow and speed things up.

One of five new features to go to version 105 (opens in new tab) of the browser is an improved printing interface that now makes it easier for users to print the current page, which can be useful for companies that print individual emails instead of entire threads.

Mozilla has also improved usability for trackpad users and has finally caught up with Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. In Windows, users can now swipe with two fingers to navigate between page history instead of pressing the Back and Forward buttons.

Firefox now not only supports partitioned service workers in remote contexts and complies with the User Timing L3 specification, but has also become twice as fast in searching for individual items in large lists.

While every other browser appears to be based on the open-source Chromium project, Firefox says using its proprietary Quantum browser engine makes it possible to “ensure that your data is treated respectfully and kept private”. Some benefits of choosing Firefox, according to: an article on Mozilla’s website, include the default blocking of third-party tracking cookies, crypto mining scripts, and social trackers.

Further updates have been made across the board, with Firefox now better handling low-memory situations in Windows, less likely to run out of memory for Linux, and perform better when memory is low.

Mac users will also notice improvements in trackpad usability with some smoothing out of accidental diagonal scrolling.

Firefox version 105 is now available for download or upgrade for Windows 7 or later, macOS 10.12 Sierra or later, and eligible Linux machines. Full system requirements are available on the Firefox website. Version 105 for mobile devices has also been made available with fewer feature releases, but with a focus on stability and technical improvements.
