Families have been forced to wait up to three hours for a single ride at one of Australia’s most popular theme parks after coughing up hundreds of dollars upon entry during school holidays.
A day ticket for two adults and two children at Warner Brothers Movie World costs a whopping $416 – while a Fast Track skip-the-line ticket costs $149 each – making the theme park an extremely expensive day out.
Furious parents have used social media to express their frustration after arriving at the Gold Coast park during the recent school holiday to find closed attractions, huge crowds and excessive queues.
“I would really think twice before spending a day here (Movie World). For the hundreds of dollars spent to get into the park, we took a ride and waited for a second halfway through 2 hours and it’s 1:00 PM,” a parent posted on Facebook.
‘Virtual queues are permanently full. Waste of a day and a lot of money. Definitely the worst theme park experience I’ve had.”

Holidaymakers have posted images of wait times on out-lane signs, warning of queues of up to 180 minutes for the most popular attractions.
Aussies from all over the country flock to the Gold Coast to visit the many theme parks, but families were outraged by the amount of people allowed inside during the holidays.
‘I think it’s really disappointing that you don’t cover the visitor numbers. We came out of state for a visit today and as a family paid over $500 to manage only 5 rides ALLLL (sic) day!’ a parent posted on social media.
“I couldn’t go to the stunt show or street parade because we queued HOURS (sic) for the rides. I get busy times there but 140 minutes + (sic) waiting for rides is absurd.’

Movie World’s Twitter account has been inundated with complaints about wait times, with people saying they queued much longer than the advertised duration.
“Each ride was a minimum of 1 hour 30-2 hours of queuing to be able to ride 30-1:30. Do the math. Grab money. I think the family enjoyed a total of about 6 minutes,” one person tweeted.
Another said: ‘Twenty years ago you could tour the film studio and there was so much more to the film world!! We’ll never come back.’
Others arrived in September to find that many of Movie World’s most popular attractions, including the Green Lantern and Scooby Doo attractions, had been shut down.
As a result, the lines for the other marquees, including the Superman Escape, took over two hours.
‘Absolutely terrible. Avoid this place like the plague unless guarantees are given. 27 very disappointed school children and 3 adults,” said one mother.

A family from Tasmania made the trip to the Gold Coast to visit the Village Roadshow theme parks including Movie World, Sea World and Wet and Wild – only to be bitterly disappointed.
“Most of the rides were under maintenance, not open, there were over 2 hours of waiting times for the small number of rides that were open, including the Superman roller coaster, and the virtual queues were always full,” Tassie’s mother of two wrote.
“We kept checking the Scooby Doo and kept being told it would open soon and they kept telling us we could wait in line, we waited in line several times and it never opened.
“You shouldn’t have charged full price if more than half of your rides were gone.”
A Village Roadshow Theme Parks spokesperson said many people attended during school holidays, but suggested that the ride’s maintenance was on a day-to-day basis.
“We are experiencing a strong school holiday period with crowds at the same level as pre-Covid visits. For the school holidays, we have extended our opening hours at Movie World and added an extra parade in addition to extra shows and entertainment in the park,” said the spokesperson.
“We understand that attraction closures and long queues are not ideal for our guests and are committed to providing the best guest experience possible, and we encourage our guests to visit our websites and download the app in the park to maximize their visit.” as much as possible.’
