Roma boss Jose Mourinho intervened at the last minute to stop Tottenham from signing Nicola Zaniolo, according to reports.
The Italian club reportedly agreed to a loan deal and future €50million obligation to buy Zaniolo last Thursday, but the former Spurs manager blocked the negotiations in an effort to keep the talented 23-year-old.
It is believed the Serie A club are now only prepared to part with Zaniolo if Tottenham offer the proposed transfer fee up front.

In a bid to convince Mourinho to sell, Spurs are willing to offer up cash alongside midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, according to Corriere dello Sport.
The ex-France international has struggled to impress since his club record move of £65m to north London and was loaned back to his former team Lyon at the end of last season.
It seems the Spurs misfit could now prove a valuable part of Antonio Conte’s pursuit of Zaniolo, although it believed a first bid including cash and Ndombele has been snubbed by Roma.

The Italian outlet claims that Zaniolo has already agreed to a salary package worth €4.5m per season at Tottenham and is excited by the opportunity of working under Conte in the Premier League.
Zaniolo notched eight goals and nine assists in all competitions last campaign and helped guide Roma to their Europa Conference League triumph in May.
Were a deal to be finalised, the playmaker would mark Tottenham’s seventh signing of the summer transfer window after Richarlison, Yves Bissouma, Ivan Perisic, Djed Spence, Fraser Forster and Clement Lenglet on loan.
