Motsi Mabuse could be set for a US move as ‘bosses of Dancing With The Stars want her as a judge’

He currently appears as a judge on Strictly Come Dancing.

But Motsi Mabuse appears to be in high demand as the bosses of the US version of the show, Dancing with the Stars, expect him to join the judging panel for the upcoming season.

Supposedly in search of a ‘fresh new energy’, the professional dancer, 41, would replace incumbent judge Len Goodman, 78, who is retiring.

According to Mirrorsources say executives view Motsi as a “live wire” and hope to bring that to the show, which is now on Disney+.

A TV informant told them: “Motsi is an open and lively character. She is loved in the UK for being a strong independent mind… someone who stands up for herself.

“With Disney’s push for more diversity, it would be a good hire,” a source reportedly added.

The casting process is reportedly ‘underway in secret’ and if Motsi were to take on the new role, it would mean juggling his position on the US and UK panel, or stepping down from the latter.

It’s not uncommon for the two competitions to share judges, with Bruno Tonioli, 67, appearing on both shows from 2005 until earlier this year, when he left Strictly to focus on Dancing with the Stars.

The Italian choreographer has joined both shows since their release dates, but was unable to appear on Strictly in 2020/21 due to Covid-19 restrictions and his commitment to the American show.

While Len also appeared as a main judge on Strictly until leaving the show in 2012, and has appeared on Dancing With The Stars ever since, before announcing his retirement this year.

And the replacement role could be perfect for Motsi, mother of one, who was previously a judge on Let’s Dance, the German version of Strictly.

She joined the UK show in 2019 as a professional dancer, before moving to the judging panel, where she is now joined by head judge Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood and Anton Du Beke.

But there could be competition for the place, as Shirley was recently rumored to be moving out.

According to The Sun, a source said: “Len’s departure leaves a big hole in the panel, but the show’s team feel Shirley would be a great addition.”

“Her experience is second to none and she has made no secret of the fact that she would love to spend more time with her son Mark, who lives in the United States with his wife Brittany.

“She could keep both her job on Strictly and a new role on Dancing with the Stars, like Len did for years.”
