An avalanche of information has recently been leaked about Motorola’s upcoming flagship smartphone, the Edge 50 Pro, revealing almost everything from specs to features.
The company posted a number of teasers on its website Indian X account (the platform formerly known as Twitter) of what the device will be capable of. But many of the details actually come from a listing page on Flipkart, an Indian e-commerce platform. There it is revealed that the Edge 50 Pro has a 6.7-inch, curved pOLED screen with a resolution of 1.5K (2,712 x 1,220 pixels) and a refresh rate of 144 Hz. Motorola seems to put a lot of work into making the viewing experience as immersive as possible. Not only does it support the full DCI-P3 color gamut, the company claims the display is “the world’s first Pantone validated display.”
Pantone, if you’re not familiar, is a company best known for creating the Pantone Matching System, a color standard used across several industries. With this standard on the Edge 50 Pro, Motorola says the screen can accurately display colors and skin tones.
AI-powered features
Accurate color reproduction is expected to play an important role in the Edge 50 Pro’s rear cameras as the lenses are also “Pantone validated”. Speaking of which, the device’s camera system is said to have AI technology that powers at least five other functions. Keep in mind that none of these have an official description explaining what they do, although their respective names provide enough insight to paint a picture.
Adaptive stabilization is likely to ensure that subjects in a photo or video remain centered at all times. Auto Focus Tracking will likely do just that: automatically focus on moving people. Photo Enhancement Engine, as the name suggests, will likely improve the quality of a photo. Style Sync sounds like an on-device generative AI tool that can create unique wallpapers in an instant, for example, similar to the Pixel 8.
Tilt Mode is the last mentioned AI-powered feature. It was tricky to figure out what this could be, but we think it will work similarly to the OnePlus 12’s Tilt-Shift mode. What it does is allow users to do this manipulate how a camera lens focuses on a topic, resulting in an interesting visual effect. A cross-section of a photo is crystal clear, while the top and bottom are blurry, which can have a miniature effect on the image.
Flipkart’s page details how the Edge 50 Pro’s tilt mode will work. There is an image of a woman with a clear view of her face surrounded by a blurred background. But without official confirmation, it’s hard to say for sure.
Specifications
The only other tidbit we learn is that the camera system will be powered by a 50 MP sensor. However, remarkable industry insider Abhishek Yadav shared more details about the smartphone on X.
He claims the model will include a 13MP ultra-wide lens and a 4,500mAh battery. And it all runs on the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset. Yadav concludes his post by stating that the Edge 50 Pro will be launched in India on April 3. It will be available in three different colors: black, lavender and white with a marble-like texture.
Now the question is whether this smartphone will be launched elsewhere. Probably. Notebook Check their coverage points out that there is a good chance that the mobile device will be rebranded as the 2024 version of the Motorola Edge Plus in the United States. We’re missing a new model and the company’s latest phone seems the likely contender. No word on when we’ll see a worldwide release, although we did ask.
