Motorola teases new foldable Razr phones – here’s what to expect

Motorola has confirmed that it will launch a new generation of Razr smartphones in the United States on June 25, with a recently posted teaser trailer on the brand’s X account (the platform formerly known as Twitter).

It doesn’t show much as most of the video is covered in shadows, although we do get a glimpse of what the devices will look like. Close-up photos show that the phones will be made of vegan leather, as you can see the texture of the material.

Much of the trailer is devoted to hinting at the possible colors of the series. You will see a burnt orange, dark blue, possibly black and pink. Again, it’s hard to tell because of all the shadows and Motorola is keeping tight-lipped at this point. However, a return of the Razr in pink could be a win for nostalgia.

In the US, they will most likely be known as the 2024 Razr and Razr Plus, according to the company’s naming conventions. In Europe they are called the Razr 50 and Razr 50 Ultra.

Prices

Officially we don’t know much yet. But unofficially, there is actually quite a bit of information available thanks to recent leaks. News site YTECHB discovered product listings for the Razr 50 and Razr 50 Ultra on European websites and revealed their potential price tags.

According to the article, the Razr 50 costs €899 and has 8 GB of memory in addition to 256 GB of storage. The Razr 50 Ultra will reportedly cost a little more at €1199 and will have 12GB of memory with 512GB of storage.

In the United States, that’s about $965 for the 2024 Razr and $1,300 for the Razr Plus. However, the models are unlikely to cost that much at launch. The leaked European prices for the Razr 50 duo are exactly the same as the Razr 40 series when it first came out. So for US customers, you might be looking at $699.99 for the basic phone and $999.99 for the Plus.

Design changes

The report also includes clear images of the smartphones, giving us a good look at two of their colors. Motorola’s Razr comes in the colors anthracite, orange and sand. This means that the orange phone in the official trailer was likely the base model. The Razr Plus is seen in metallic green, which wasn’t in the official announcement; However, YTECHB does mention that it will be available in blue and peach.

Another design that stands out in the leaked images is that the external screen of the standard Razr is smaller than the screen of the Razr Plus. The former has a prominent border at the top, while the latter is much thinner – just a black line.

A short spec sheet is at the bottom of the YTECHB report. The 2024 Razr is said to have a 3.63-inch display, while the Razr Plus measures four inches diagonally. Other notable hardware specs include a 6.9-inch main touchscreen on both smartphones, a 4,200mAh battery on the base Razr, and dual 50MP cameras on the Plus model.

As with any leak, you should take all this information with a grain of salt because things can always change. Either way, we’ll find out for sure at the Motorola event in about a week.
