Motorists in Norwich suffer the most problems from potholes, new data shows.
The survey, compiled by eBay, was based on the highest per capita sales of car items likely to need replacement due to poor road conditions in the UK.
The city known for its TV cooking queen Delia Smith led the list, which was based on the areas with the highest sales per person of wheels, tires, hubcaps and other auto parts most likely to be damaged by potholes.
Lincoln, in the neighboring county, came second in the list, followed by Chesterfield, Preston and Tamworth in Staffordshire.
Norfolk and Lincolnshire are also among the counties receiving the highest level of government funding for motorway maintenance in the current financial year to tackle the pothole problem – only Devon getting more from the £200m pothole.

The funding is in addition to the normal motorway budget and the counties with the worst roads get the most – for example, Norfolk gets £6,356,800 and Lincolnshire £6,884,000.
Dr. Tony Tong, Head of Automotive at eBay, said: ‘Drivers in Norwich and nearby Lincoln buy more new wheels, tires and related parts than anywhere else in the UK – suggesting that their roads do the most damage to these fragile items.
It’s not all bad news for motorists, however, as the six most affected cities in the eBay Pothole Index are all covered by local authorities who are among the top 15 recipients when it comes to their share of the recently announced £200m increase. in road maintenance spending, suggesting that the extra funds will go to the places that need it most.”
Data used to calculate the numbers refers to the number of eBay items purchased that are typically vulnerable to pothole damage, including wheels, tires, wheel
trims, center caps and tire pressure monitoring sensors, by March 2023. The Pothole Index ranks the number of items purchased against local population size, using data from the Office of National Statistics.
