Luckiest driver in Kiev: Motorist is inches from death when Russian missile crashes next to their car

Dash cam footage captured the moment a motorist was inches from death when a Russian missile crashed into the road next to his car in Ukraine’s capital, Kiev.

The incident occurred Monday during a rare daytime attack on the city, which left no injuries.

In the video, the rocket falls in the middle of the road, narrowly missing two white cars.

It connects to an overhead wire with street signs on it and what appear to be traffic lights before hitting the road and detonating.

Fragments of the electronic device and missile are shot at the camera, leaving it slightly smudged.

A small section of the road is then on fire with black smoke billowing into the air as vehicles continue to pass as if nothing had happened.

The way the missile falls suggests it was intercepted by air defenses before reaching its target, according to BBC News.

The fragments were later collected by the police for further investigation.

Ukraine’s head of military intelligence has warned of a swift response to a series of rocket attacks on Kiev.

General Kyrylo Budanov said Monday’s attacks did not intimidate people in the city, who went about their daily lives.

Officials said all missiles had been shot down and there were no reports of casualties.

However, burning debris from the intercepted missiles came down in residential areas in central Kiev.

Monday’s attack followed two nights of heavy drone strikes, the latest in some 16 airstrikes on Kiev this month.

It was unusual in that it took place during the day and appeared to target the city centre, while other attacks on the capital in May were at night and targeted key infrastructure or air defenses on the periphery.

General Budanov said he wanted to upset Russian supporters by letting them know that people in the city had not been phased by the attack and had continued to work afterward.

“All those who tried to intimidate us, dreaming that it would have some effect, you will soon regret it,” he added in a statement released by Ukraine’s intelligence ministry.

“Our answer won’t be long in coming.”

On Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky praised the country’s air defense forces after the capital suffered the largest drone strike since the invasion began.

“You are heroes,” Zelensky said, after military commanders said most drones launched by Russia had been intercepted.
