Motocross and X Games star Jayden Archer dies in training accident aged 27

Freestyle motocross rider Jayden Archer, the first rider to perform a triple backflip in competition, has died while training in Melbourne. He was 27.

The accident occurred Wednesday, but few details were released. Victoria State Police said Thursday they would not comment on individuals or incidents due to privacy concerns.

Archer was part of the Nitro Circus crew for over a decade. The group confirmed his death an Instagram post.

“Jayo exemplified passion, hard work and determination,” Nitro Circus said. “He pushed what was possible on a dirt bike to unprecedented heights. A positive influence on the people around him. And above all, a wonderful person and friend to us all. We love you size. Drive in peace.”

Australian media reported that Archer, a two-time X Games medalist, planned to attempt a world-first quadruple backflip later this year.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Jayo Archer and our thoughts and prayers go out to his parents and fiancee,” Scott Guglielmino, X Games interim chief operating officer, said in a statement to ESPN.

“Jayo, one of the most dedicated and charismatic FMX riders, will be missed by the X Games family.”

Archer, one of only three riders to ever land the triple backflip on a dirt bike, became the first rider to land the trick in competition in November 2022, during the Nitro World Games in Brisbane, Australia.
