Motherland lands another Christmas special with fan favorite Joanna Lumley reprising her guest role
Motherland returns next month for a Christmas special.
The BBC2 comedy has earned a legion of fans since it first aired in 2016, with a comedic take on the jealousy, rivalry and insecurities between a group of primary school mums.
While it’s still unknown if there will be a fourth season, despite pleas from fans, it’s been confirmed that the cast will reunite for a one-off special featuring the return of guest star Joanna Lumley.
One to watch: Motherland returns next month for a Christmas special and sees Kevin (Paul Ready), Julia (Anna Maxwell Martin), Liz (Diane Morgan), Anne (Philippa Dunne), Amanda (Lucy Punch) and Meg (Tanya Moodie) back on our screens
After quickly becoming a fan favorite when she appeared in season three, the British icon will reprise her role as Felicity, Amanda’s impossible mother.
During the special, the moms and Kevin (Paul Ready) will be busy preparing for the ultimate co-ed Christmas celebration.
It’s a packed house at Julia’s (Anna Maxwell Martin) with an influx of grandparents demanding endless cups of tea.
Kevin also joins the family this year after Julia learned his alternative was dining on turkey chips from the hotel vending machine in the company of the other divorced dads.
She is back! While it’s not yet known if there will be a fourth season, the cast will reunite for a one-off special featuring the return of guest star Joanna LumleY
Liz (Diane Morgan) also turns up when her ex cancels after a huge Christmas Eve bow, turning down his very first offer to host.
Things aren’t looking better for Amanda (Lucy Punch), who spends Christmas Day with her ex Johnny (Terry Mynott), the kids and Johnny’s new wife Tamara (Louise Delamere).
Amanda’s mother Felicity is also invited and jumps at the chance to enjoy the awkward atmosphere.
The contrast to Christmas in Anne’s (Philippa Dunne) home couldn’t be greater; Anne receives her mother (Maggie McCarthy) and the cousins - all 29 – and is beside herself with excitement.
Despite their long-term love match, Meg’s (Tanya Moodie) husband Bill buys her a present so horrifying that she questions whether he really knows her.
She gets stuck on the bountiful supply of booze she bought for the day, but regrets the drunken results when something very shocking happens at Julia’s.
Motherland: Last Christmas airs on Friday 23 December at 9.30pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
