Although the gas station attendant told her there were no more tickets available, Gimblet insisted he check again, and one last ticket was found.

The scratch ticket cost $10, but it was the winning ticket.

“At first the gas station attendant thought there were no more tickets, but I asked him to double check because I like the crossword puzzles best. He found the last one!’ Gimblet explained.

Gimblet later accompanied her daughter and granddaughter to claim her $2 million prize at the Florida Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee, opting for a one-time payment of $1,645,000.

Gimblet’s daughter told lottery officials how her mother’s win had affected her and cried tears of joy.

“The day before my mom bought this ticket, I rang the doorbell and walked out of the hospital after completing my last breast cancer treatment,” she said.

“My mother had withdrawn her savings to care for me when I was ill. I’m so happy for her.’
