A mother has told how she “kidnapped” her four-month-old daughter to teach her husband a lesson after finding out he sleeps all day when he should be watching her.
The 29-year-old shared hers shocking story on Reddit’s “Am I the A**hole” forum this week, saying she learned of his neglect from a concerned neighbor who heard her baby girl crying for hours a day.
The working mom explained in her post that her 35-year-old husband “reluctantly agreed to stay home” with their daughter because “daycare is too expensive.”
“It is important to know that he has been unemployed since 2021. He is receiving benefits,” she wrote. “It’s also important to know that he’s extremely lazy. He cooks, doesn’t clean and doesn’t help in any way.’

Although she was worried about leaving the child with her father, she felt she had no other choice. At first she thought the arrangement worked out well.
“When I came back from work, she was clean and asleep,” she noted. “The next few times I came home, he was playing with her, feeding her, or taking her for a walk. I was happy.’
However, that all changed when a neighbor told her that her baby “cries for hours” after she leaves for work in the morning.
When the neighbor finally knocked on their door, she discovered that the baby’s father had slept through his daughter’s crying.
The mother concluded that her husband “sleeps all day” and then “pretends to take care of their daughter” before she gets home.
To catch him in the act, she secretly took a day off and left home at her set time to trick him into thinking she was on her way to work. She waited 30 minutes before returning.
“Of course he was knocked out [asleep] with his stupid noise-canceling headphones on,” she said. “I went to my daughter’s room, picked her up and took her to my friend’s house.”
The mother recalled waiting two hours before finally calling her husband to tell him she was “coming home early.”
“He called me back and said he can’t find the baby. He told me he was going to call the police but before he did I told him what I did,” she wrote. “He called me an asshole and many other words too.
“When I got home, his mom was there “soothing his nerves” because he’s having a panic attack. She also called me an asshole.’
She added that her husband slept with his mother that night and relatives tell her she is a “terrible person” for what she did.
“I know it was extreme, but I don’t know if I would consider myself an asshole,” she concluded the post.
A majority of Reddit users who responded to the post sided with the mother, saying her husband’s neglect is child abuse and she should divorce him.
“Someone could have kidnapped your child. Or she may have gotten sick or [choked] or needed a diaper change. He neglects your child,” one person wrote.
“Sleeping with noise canceling headphones as the only adult in the house taking care of a 4M old?! Absolutely NTA,” someone else added.
‘Unemployed and doesn’t even want to take care of his own child? This man is a bloodsucker, you deserve better,’ insisted another.
