The mother of the gunman who murdered 19 children and two teachers at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, has been arrested for threatening to kill her boyfriend.

Adriana Martinez Reyes, 40, the mother of Salvador Ramos, was charged with assault, battery and threatening an act of violence following an incident in Oklahoma City on Wednesday.

She told police responding to the incident that her son is “the one who killed all the children in the Uvalde Texas shooting.”

A police report said officers came to her home at 10 a.m. after a call about Reyes threatening to kill her boyfriend, who was living with her.

He later told police that Reyes “got mad at him and told him that before he moved out of this house he was going to kill him.” He also said ‘he thinks she’s going to kill him while he sleeps and he’s terrified of her’.

After being arrested, Reyes told police her boyfriend was “crazy” but she stayed with him because “he’s not that bad and I love him.”

Reyes, whose Facebook profile says she is compromised, was being held at the Oklahoma County Detention Center on $1,000 bond.

court records reported by the New York Times said Reyes told police during his arrest Wednesday that his son was “the one who killed all the kids in the Uvalde Texas shooting.”

The alleged attack came days after police were called to the same address on New Year’s Day for a domestic violence incident. At that time, the alleged victim told police that she planned to obtain a protection order against Reyes.

Shockingly, the killer’s mother later said her son “had his reasons” for the massacre. Her Facebook page includes many references to the shooting, along with tributes to her son.

The police response to the shooting has been heavily criticized. About 400 officers responded to the scene, but Ramos was not confronted for about 75 minutes.

Damning surveillance footage from a school hallway showed dozens of officers waiting near the classroom without attempting to confront the shooter.

Surprisingly, the killer’s mother later said that her son “had his reasons.” Martinez told CNN: “I have no words. I have no words to say. I don’t know what he was thinking.

“He had his reasons for doing what he did and please don’t judge him.”

The police faced heavy criticism for their response to the shooting. It took officers about 75 minutes to confront Ramos after he locked himself in two adjoining classrooms at the school.

Reyes’s Facebook profile includes many recent posts referring to the mass shooting carried out by his son. It also highlights an image of Ramos with the message ‘in loving memory’.

She wrote on November 21: “Despite everything that has happened, I will never stop living life.”

The post was referring to his son shooting his grandmother before the school massacre. Reyes said: “My son shot her and it breaks my heart into a million pieces that she suffered, but she will never stop loving him so much.”

In another December 15 post, she said: ‘I pray that no one, as a parent, sibling or grandparent, spouse or child, has to experience this torment of losing loved ones in such a horrible matter as the ONE that was brought upon MY SON, there are no words I can say or even say to myself that it will get better, I am sorry for the beautiful lives that were lost, including MY OWN son. I pray that each and every one of them is at peace.’
