Mother of three in Dallas, shot to death by stray bullet while driving daughter to prom

A mother of three was shot and killed in a shootout as she was driving one of her daughters to get ready for prom in the Dallas area.

Ana Moreno, 39, was hit by a bullet that entered her vehicle at about 4 p.m. Saturday at a mall in Pleasant Grove, Texas.

Police believe two vehicles in the area fired on each other as stray bullets flew around and hit Moreno and three other men.

The mother later died in hospital from her injuries. FOS 4 reported.

“She was so excited to see her getting ready for prom. She was excited about everything,” said Moreno’s daughter Michelle Rodriguez. “She was so excited for us to graduate, that’s all she wanted.”

It is currently unclear whether the three men taken to hospital were also bystanders or if they were involved in the shooting.

The three men were still in critical condition in hospital and no suspects were arrested on Sunday evening.

Moreno’s family released a balloon on Sunday afternoon in memory of the devoted mother of two young girls and a boy.

‘It is difficult. I just still can’t believe it,” said Amy Rodriguez, Moreno’s other daughter who was in the passenger seat of the car when the shots rang out.

“Just really loud gunshots and very close, very close to us,” she told FOX4.

“At that point, the woman’s daughter said she didn’t care except that her mother was alive.

“I didn’t care about the prom. I didn’t care about anything. I just wanted her to be okay.’

The young girl said she told her mother to keep driving, but her mother was unresponsive and did not move.

“Well, she fell on me, and when I looked at her I saw blood, and I knew it,” she recalled. Their vehicle eventually crashed and Rodriguez got out of the car screaming for help.

A witness, speaking to the local outlet, described the gruesome scene he encountered when he saw the young girl running around.

She looked panicked. She tried to find someone to help her mother. She was scared,” witness Jacob Faz said.

Faz was out with his wife and said they tried to help the mother but there was nothing they could do.

‘She wasn’t breathing. I checked to see if I had a heartbeat,” he told FOX 4.

Michelle, who is a year younger than her sister Amy, said their mother meant everything to them and their lives will never be the same without her.

‘She didn’t deserve it. She didn’t,” said Michelle.

Amy, Michelle and their other family members are now gathering to honor their lost loved one and mourn her death.

“It will get better eventually,” Amy said in tears.

Moreno’s family has one GoFundMe bill to cover funeral expenses.

“It is with a heavy heart that we share that Ana was suddenly taken from us due to gun violence,” the fundraiser’s description reads.

“We want to thank everyone who has sent their condolences. We will appreciate everyone’s help to put Ana to rest,” it continued.

The fundraiser has a goal of $15,000 and has raised just over $5,000 as of Sunday.
