Mother-of-the-bride sparks fierce controversy by wearing stunning gown to daughter’s wedding

A mother of the bride has sparked fierce controversy online after wearing a flamboyant dress to her daughter’s wedding.

A video taken at the event with the caption “The most stunning MOB dress we’ve ever seen!!!!” had Lori DeWitt, 53, walking down the aisle in her custom Audrey + Brooks outfit.

The Louisiana mom’s green dress featured a striking floral design, a plunging neckline and a removable train and bow.

For her wedding, Dewitt’s daughter, Amanda DeWitt Leblanc, 26, wore a relatively tame white off-the-shoulder dress.

Not long after wedding content producer Chloe LeBlanc posted the video to TikTok, people drew lines in the sand, with some praising DeWitt’s bold choice and others claiming she had tried to put her daughter on stage.

‘Why does the MOB want to be the center of attention???’ wrote one surprised viewer.

‘Why prank your daughter???? Shocking,” another commented.

“It’s not about the mafia!” someone else complained.

One commenter even mused on DeWitt’s motivation for wearing the dress, joking, “This mom is looking for all the attention, very sad.”

And another user commented: Glad she’s not my mom.’

But there were plenty of users who rallied behind DeWitt, praising her for her taste and defending her decision to wear such a unique dress.

The mother, who works as an interior designer, defended her decision, saying: ‘I would never do anything to hurt my daughter. Everyone just wanted to look their best,” DeWitt said Today.com.

She says she was blindsided by the controversy her dress caused.

“We didn’t know my dress would spark a discussion, but we laugh about it,” she said.

Mrs. Dewitt even went to great lengths to ensure that the dress would be appropriate for the church in New Orleans where the wedding was held.

“It was originally strapless, but I didn’t think that was appropriate for a Catholic church, so they changed the neckline.”

“I love what she wore,” the bride raved. ‘My mother looked absolutely beautiful.

“It was as much her day as it was mine,” Amanda said, before adding, “We wanted our family members to shine.”

Despite the negative online comments, which she admits are “a little heartbreaking,” Lori Dewitt has kept her sense of humor.

“I think I’ll show up to my next daughter’s wedding wearing a burlap bag that says MOB,” she said.
