The mother of a 15-year-old boy who was allegedly caught stealing the keys to a family’s car has apologized for her son’s behavior but says she can’t help it.
A family from Toowoomba woke up when two teenage boys ransacked their home to steal the keys to their Audi around 6am on Thursday morning.
One of the teens managed to flee the scene, but his partner wasn’t so lucky and was captured by the homeowners and kept in the house until the police arrived.
There was no violence between the boy and the homeowners before he was arrested.
“The perpetrator told us they wanted to steal the Audi,” said the homeowner.
“It’s getting out of hand and more people will get hurt if they’re left on the street.”
His mother, whose identity has not been released, told media that she “felt sorry” for the victims because she could not do anything about her son’s crimes.
“He keeps going to jail, and the people there keep putting him out,” she said.

Police charged the teen with one count of intentionally breaking into a residence.
He is expected to appear before the Toowoomba Children’s Court.
That same teenager was reportedly in a stolen vehicle that crashed through a BP gas station near Toowoomba over the weekend.
Last year he was involved in another incident in another allegedly stolen car. A 13-year-old was his accomplice who died in that accident.
It comes after two people were charged after an angry mob of nearly 100 people formed in the footsteps of alleged criminals in Rockhampton on Sunday.
The 15-year-old was held in the family’s home until police arrived, who charged him with intentionally breaking into a home
The mob was led by ex-kickboxer turned One Nation candidate Torin O’Brien amid a spate of juvenile delinquency in the city.
The protesters gathered in North Rockhampton’s Central Park, surrounded two homes and banged on windows and doors.
“I understand 100 percent that people are frustrated and angry,” Detective Luke Peachey told reporters Thursday.
“I live here too, I’ve lived here for 25 years now – I’m disgusted with some of the behaviors that are happening now with our property crimes.
“But the last thing we can have is untrained people walking around trying to take matters into their own hands.”
The two neighbors were charged with trespassing.
