Mother hangs BODY BAG for Worcester Halloween display near where child killer David McGreavy struck

A mother defended setting up a Halloween display with a body bag hanging from her windows — just a mile from where a notorious triple child killer struck.

Collette Alldrett, 39, has hit back at criticism of her macabre adornments after she was accused of “bad taste” and “scaring children.”

She lives in Ronkswood, Worcester, just a mile from where the evil David McGreavy murdered three children on April 13, 1973, and impaled their bodies on the balustrade.

The depraved killer was dubbed the ‘Monster of Worcester’ and was released in 2019 after spending 45 years in prison, much to the outrage of the local community.

Some neighbors now believe Collette’s eerie display is “too exaggerated” and “horrific,” given the areas associated with McGreavy.

However, others have said “it’s time to move on” and said the decorations are just “a little fun” in the Halloween spirit.

Collette insists most people love her display, and she and her four children go out every year to decorate the front of their house.

She admits that the two life-size body bags attached to the exterior walls certainly attracted attention, but little did they know that they disagreed.

Collette, a school employee and cleaning lady, said: ‘To my knowledge we have not had any complaints about our new body bag decorations. I don’t think they have bad taste.

“There will always be people who have to say something awful or mean when others try to do nice things to make others laugh.

“But everyone seems to love them. Most people are curious how they are made.

“They are made from an old football for the head, milk cartons, pop bottles, two large black bags, tape, old wire and cable attached to the outside wall.

“No one has mistaken it for a real body. They’re all lumpy and bumpy and you wouldn’t get a real body like that.

“My kids love it and they all help with the decorations every year and helped make the body bags this year.”

‘I don’t think it’s funny at all to hang body bags on the wall. It’s just a little sick,” a neighbor said

Collette, her husband and four children have spent the past four years decorating their home on Westminster Road for Halloween.

In early October, the Alldrett family begins to transform their home, ready for Halloween night, adding to the spooky decor throughout the month.

This year also features giant cobwebs and spiders, a coffin and even a tribute to Stephen King’s horror film It.

She added: “My family and I love decorating our house for Halloween every year. At the beginning of October we will start furnishing our outdoor space.

“We also have a Halloween projector that shines at night from the upstairs window onto the garden.

“We’re putting up a few more decorations for Halloween and we turn on all our lights and our projector every night at 6:00 PM.

“Most people seem to enjoy it.”

However, a neighbour, who did not want to be mentioned by name, complained: ‘I don’t think it is funny at all to have body bags on the wall. It’s just a little sick.

‘I don’t celebrate Halloween myself, I think it’s a bit ridiculous. I find the display sinister and will scare children, but that’s just my opinion.’

Another person on social media added: ‘Little OTT when you consider what happened to those kids on the road. Just a little gruesome and in bad taste for me.’

A third person said: ‘Stay stylish Ronkswood’, while another said: ‘Seeing body bags, seems like a lovely area to live in, words fail me.’

Another just said, “So sticky.”

But other neighbors defended the display, and one of them added: ‘I think people should stop being so angry themselves.

“It’s time to talk about the McGreavy case, it happened a long time ago. They’re obviously just kind of fun for Halloween.”
